Introduction

The Headmaster and Governors are seeking to appoint an inspirational Teaching Assistant to offer 1:1 support for the development of a capable, high-functioning autistic pupil  in Year 7 at Cransley School.

The successful candidate will understand, value and nurture Cransley School’s ethos amongst our youngest pupils and will build upon the School’s success, whilst preserving its culture and mission statement of Seeking Excellence; Nurturing Relationships and Venturing Beyond.

We encourage applications from new and experienced professional teaching assistants, graduates who may be looking to start a professional teaching career, or those who may be choosing to step aside from other roles.  We will happily support career aspirations through the first years of their employment with in-house mentoring and professional training.

Job Specification

The successful candidate will carry out the professional duties of a school teaching assistant.   

  • Working closely with a wide range of class teachers to deliver excellent teaching and learning.   
  • Supporting a child with specific learning needs on a 1:1 basis.   
  • Accompanying groups on trips.   
  • Supporting assessment and evidencing learning in line with pastoral and personal needs.   
  • Understanding of high functioning autism, social communication issues, daily structure and processes  
  • Understanding of alternative means of accessing a broad curriculum, meeting and enhancing potential.
  • Nurturing relationships with parents to ensure organisation of resources and time, provide feedback and assurance and build a sound domestic platform for academic development.
  • Working with a variety of teachers to provide bespoke learning resources, differentiated and challenging lessons and personal positive feedback.   
  • Maintaining a safe and positive environment for all learners. 

Contract: Full-time, term time, subject to a probationary period

Salary £14,000-£15,000pa

Personal Specification

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills, experience and attributes:

Qualifications and Experience  

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above or NVQ EYFS/Childcare equivalent qualifications.   
  • Previous primary aged School classroom experience.   
  • A thirst for professional development.   
  • A proven ability to work on their own initiative.  
  • Experience of working 1:1 with children with specific learning needs.
  • Qualifications and recent training in autism, social communication needs and speech and language issues.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen, consult and discuss   
  • Excellent Computing/ICT and Literacy skills   
  • Willingness to be visible and act as an ambassador for the School to current and prospective parents, feeder schools and the wider community   
  • Ability to relate effectively to all sections of the School community   
  • Ability to lead, inspire and motivate pupils, particularly young children   
  • Ability to lead and drive innovation in science and make contribution to the department's Development Plan and associated departmental documents   
  • Ability to manage change successfully   
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills   
  • Highly efficient, with excellent time management skills   
  • Commitment to achieving the highest possible academic and personal outcomes.
