Job overview

This is a great opportunity to lead in Key Stage 5 at this challenging, but exciting time for post 16 mathematics.

Northampton Academy is a transformational school serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'good' by Ofsted in all areas in February 2016. Our results have increased dramatically and this year we have achieved a Progress 8 score which places us near to the top of all schools nationally.

We need a committed professional looking for their next challenge, to help build on our success within this important subject and guide our positive, forward-thinking team to further success. The post holder will model and share outstanding practice and be accountable for student progress and development at Key Stage 5.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of maths teachers who are committed to continually improving the quality of the teaching and learning. The successful candidate may be ready for a new challenge, with a flair for leading and motivating students and designing imaginative and stimulating schemes of work. Your belief in the potential of every student will shine through.

Wherever your location, this is an ideal post as we shall offer the successful candidate a comprehensive induction and support package together with a well-developed and highly personalised CPD programme. You may also be eligible for a relocation assistance.

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone. Our vision is to provide excellent education so that all young people are able to make a success of their lives. If we are to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the key ingredient – you.

Opportunities exist within the United Learning Group to network and work with other Academies. There is a culture of collaboration and talent-spotting; good leaders often find themselves progressing to more senior positions without leaving the group.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted in all areas in March 2023. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION, AMBITION, TOLERANCE and INTEGRITY. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Quality Mark Plus that was awarded in November 2021.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons. To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

  • A genuine ‘flexi-working’ approach with at least one opportunity a week to come in      late or leave early for every teaching member of staff
  • No unannounced observations
  • No lesson grading
  • 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
  • A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally

United Learning’s pledge, to all our academy teachers, is that by working for us you will benefit from more pay, more time and more support.

More pay…

• We pay an average of 5% above national scales – the best rates of pay in the sector

• Cash towards medical treatment

• Generous staff discount scheme

more time…

• Three extra INSET days for planning

• At least one personal day a year

and more support

• Great training for your career

• Exceptional curriculum resources

• Expert subject advice

• Support for your wellbeing
