KS5 Maths Coordinator

We are seeking an outstanding A-Level Maths teacher to lead us in the development of our A-level provision as we grow into our sixth year, with our new Sixth Form opening in September 2018. The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants. 

The successful candidate will lead the development of the curriculum and assessment framework, the wider learning program for maths A-level and set up the Information, Advice and Guidance systems to ensure students are able to transition effectively to university. As a science specialist school, the sixth form offer will be centred around a commitment to STEM subjects, with maths being a significant part of this. This unique opportunity provides excellent training for future leaders, and you will be joining an incredibly talented and supportive Maths team. The Maths department has an exemplary record of achieving outstanding outcomes through its enriching and exciting curriculum and robust assessment systems.

As an EBACC subject, all students in key stages 3 and 4 have a 50-minute Maths lesson every day - our students therefore receive a rich diet of mathematics and teachers are able to establish very positive and purposeful routines with their classes. We additionally offer core elective numeracy classes in the afternoons to help our students who need extra support in Maths, and a variety of extended electives including Chess Club and UKMT training. Some students in Year 10 and 11 are studying for a FSMQ in Additional Maths in order to prepare themselves for A Level mathematics – it is a popular course that runs after school and students have made tremendous progress so far. 

Students’ behaviour at the school is exemplary and there is an incredibly positive sense of community amongst students and staff, enabled by our whole school ethos and ‘Etiquette’. Our students understand the importance of Maths, enjoy the subject and genuinely care about the progress they are making. They are diligent and hardworking when it comes to prep, homework and revision, and are very mature and independent.

The new post-holder(s) will be joining us at a time of growth and the organisation therefore offers good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools. The Twyford Trust’s fourth school – Ada Lovelace CE High School – is due to open in temporary accommodation (on the William Perkin site) in September 2018.

• A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
• Ability to teach Maths to KS5
• Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
• An understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments
• An understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement
• An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
• Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement

• A commitment to the ethos of the school
