We are looking for Language Teachers in a school which offers outstanding opportunities for professional development. We offer French, German, Spanish, and some Latin, and these roles are most suited to applicants who are can teach at least one language to KS5 and ideally two languages to GCSE. 

Twyford Church of England High School, an Ofsted outstanding school with a thriving Sixth Form, is one of four Twyford Trust schools. The Trust’s third school – Ealing Fields High School (which opened in 2016 and joined the Trust on 1st September 2017) works closely with Twyford School (and is located nearby) – interested applicants are welcome to have their application put forward for Ealing Fields school too. The new post-holders(s) will be joining us at a time of growth and the Trust therefore offers excellent promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools. The post is well suited to both qualified teachers and those in their NQT year.

The MFL Department at Twyford is a team of 11 well-qualified linguists, the majority of whom offer two or more languages.

In Year 7 students study either French or Spanish with able linguists (half of the year group) also studying Latin. In Year 8 more able linguists are offered German as a second modern foreign language. In Year 9 all students begin their GCSE, having chosen from French, German or Spanish with some students choosing a second modern foreign language or Latin at this stage. Approximately 80% of students study languages in Year 9, and the majority continue through to GCSE. Student numbers are also very strong at A Level in French and Spanish.

At GCSE in 2017 we achieved 95% A*-C in Spanish, 95% A*-C in German, and 67% A*-C in French.  At A Level 100% of students achieved A*-C in German, 75% in Spanish and 90% in French.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • ability to teach at least one language to KS5, and (ideally) two languages to KS4
  • knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
  • an understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments
  • an understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement
  • an understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • energy and enthusiasm
  • a commitment to the ethos of the school.

These roles are suitable for NQT or RQT applicants.

Twyford CE High School, Acton

Twyford CE High School was set up by the LDBS in 1981. The school has an excellent reputation and is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (May 2012) and SIAMS (April 2017). It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as a large and highly successful Sixth Form in which Maths, Maths and Computing are the largest areas. Since its inception the school has grown considerably and now admits around 975 students aged 11 to 16, and an additional 500 students to the Sixth Form.

Ealing Fields High School, Ealing

Ealing Fields High School opened in September 2016 and joined the Twyford Trust on 1st September 2017. The school has two year groups (7 and 8), totalling 240 students. The staff community, though still small, is very positive and highly motivated. The school will move into its new building during 2019-20 but until then will remain situated in temporary accommodation in Wyke Gardens.

Twyford Church of England High School is the founding school of the Twyford CE Academies Trust which is the highest performing Trust in the UK.  It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages and a reputation for excellence which has made it heavily oversubscribed.
