The Directors and Governors of this successful Catholic Academy, a member of the Carmel Education Trust wish to appoint a passionate and committed Lay Chaplain.

The Chaplain should:

• be a practising Catholic in full communion with the Church;

o Help people to recognise God’s love for them, inspire through example

o To encourage staff and pupils in their faith

o Be visible and approachable around the school

o Accompany people at particular stages of their journey through life

o Get to know people individually

o Support the Principal in his role as faith leader in school

o To play a central role in the pastoral system

o Support and further develop the spiritual, religious and liturgical life of the school.

o To support staff and pupils in their planning, preparation and leading of liturgies and collective worship

o To be a link to the wider Church and local community

About St Michael's Catholic Academy

St Michael’s Catholic Academy was established as a state secondary in 1964 in Billingham, County Durham. It became part of Carmel Education Trust in 2013, along with a number of other local Catholic schools. 

Currently, the co-educational secondary caters for more than 800 pupils aged 11-16. St Michael’s intends to move to a larger, more modern site in the near future.

Traditional Catholic values underpin the school’s ethos, with emphasis placed on the promotion of spiritual development among pupils. St Michael’s Catholic Academy values its sense of community and cooperation, and the importance of responsibility and respect is instilled in each and every student.

St Michael's aims to build a culture of service and compassion, modelled and lived by all members of the school community. Its core values are truth, justice, love, gentleness and forgiveness. 

The school aims for academic excellence by setting the highest expectations for teaching, learning and behaviour. It also stresses the importance of staff development, with teachers having access to extensive training networks.
