The Lead Cricket Coach will lead the strategic development of cricket across the school, inspiring pupils of all abilities to engage, progress, and thrive. Through outstanding leadership and coaching, you will create a culture that is welcoming, aspirational, and supportive—where every pupil feels valued and encouraged.

The role requires between 8 to 25 hours per week, including Saturday mornings to support our termly programme of internal and external fixtures amongst our teams. This role will coach cricket during the summer term. A willingness and ability to work before and after school to coach and support training sessions and fixtures is essential. Working pattern to be discussed and agreed at interview. 


Key Responsibilities


Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Sport and Director of Cricket to shape and deliver a long-term vision for cricket at Dunottar.

  • Champion an inclusive, player-centred coaching framework that nurtures talent at every level.

  • Lead on the implementation and delivery of technical and tactical development across all teams, ensuring pupils receive high-quality coaching that builds skill, understanding, and confidence.

  • Build strong links with local prep schools, clubs, and Surrey County Cricket Club to enhance outreach and opportunities.

  • Support and mentor other coaches within the school, fostering a culture of continuous professional development. 


Coaching & Programme Development

  • Lead and deliver high-quality coaching sessions for cricket teams, including weekly training and Saturday fixtures.

  • Ensure every pupil has access to excellent coaching, regardless of ability, while providing tailored support for performance players and scholars.

  • Deliver additional training sessions for pupils on county and academy pathways, ensuring they receive the support needed to excel.

  • Organise ECB coaching qualifications for Sports Scholars and G&T pupils.

  • Oversee conditioning and fitness provision in partnership with the Head of Strength and Conditioning.

  • Communicate effectively with pupils and parents regarding team selection, training commitments, and performance pathways.

  • Monitor pupils’ progress and wellbeing, offering guidance to balance sporting and academic commitments.

  • Create opportunities for pupils to experience competitive cricket at an appropriate level, while celebrating participation and enjoyment.


Person Specification

Essential Attributes

  • A record of good academic achievement including a relevant degree. 

  • ECB Level 2 coaching qualification (or equivalent experience).

  • Proven experience coaching pupils aged 11–18, managing teams, and delivering fixtures.

  • The ability to lead the 1stXI winter training programme and summer match play programme.

  • Strong understanding of performance pathways and experience supporting talented athletes.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Energetic, approachable, and committed to modelling the highest standards of behaviour and sportsmanship.


Desirable Attributes

  • High levels of personal and professional integrity, a high degree of self-confidence, personal energy and dynamism. 

  • Additional coaching qualifications (e.g. England Cricket Board Level 3 Coach), and experience in coach education or mentoring.

  • Ability to teach a wider range of sports.

  • Experience in programme design and event management within a school or club setting.
