Moreton Hall is looking to recruit a Lead Exam Invigilator to take responsibility for running examination rooms with up to 100 candidates and a team of up to 5 invigilators during key examination periods throughout the academic year.


Job Outline and Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of the exam including:

  • Organising and managing the invigilators in the room to comply with procedures and regulations, delegating where appropriate to maintain an overview of the running of the exam;
  • Alerting Senior School Staff as soon as possible in the event of any breach of regulations or unforeseen circumstances;
  • Setting up examination venues by laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in accordance with strict procedures;
  • Closely following and enforcing exam procedures and regulations;
  • Assisting candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues;
  • Ensuring that candidates do not talk once inside examination venues;
  • Invigilating during examinations, dealing with queries raised by candidates and reporting any examination irregularities to the exams team in accordance with procedures;
  • Checking attendance during examinations;
  • Recording details of late arrivals and early leavers and collecting scripts from early leavers;
  • Overseeing the escorting of candidates from venues during the examination as required and supervising candidates whilst outside examination venues, ensuring no unauthorised material is consulted and that examination regulations are observed at all times;
  • Collecting, collating by ordering the papers according to exam numbers and delivering scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with strict procedures;
  • Supervising candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner.
  • Supervision of ESB Examinations in February and March.
  • Lead Invigilators may also be required to:
  • Assist with the packing of examination papers, stationery (sometimes heavy) and equipment prior to the examinations and the delivery to and from venues as appropriate.
  • Read and/or scribe (writing or typing) for students with special exam arrangements, (after appropriate training).
  • Assist in school exams at certain points of the academic year.


Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • GCSE English and Maths A*-C (or equivalent)
  • Either experience of exams invigilation or experience of teaching

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Approachable and able to act as a focal point for students
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and tact when dealing with pupils who can sometimes be under stress
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Well-organised and meticulous, with great accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to follow regulations and work to predetermined instructions
  • Flexible approach, able to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Calm under pressure or unexpected situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to relate effectively to both staff and students
  • Ability to lead a team and delegate tasks to others
  • Committed to creating a positive, supportive, calm and orderly exams environment
  • Interest in working in a school environment and supporting students at an important time of their school career
  • To be able to demonstrate a commitment to the principles of Equalities and to be able to carry out duties in accordance with the School’s Disability and Equality Policy


Experience:

  • Experience of working in a secondary school
  • Experience of working in an Independent school
  • Experience of exams invigilation

Located in the town of Oswestry, Shropshire, Moreton Hall is an all-through school with a Sixth Form for pupils between the ages of 3 and 18. The school was founded in 1913 in an Elizabethan manor house. Boys are accepted up to Year 8.
