Summerhill is a truly great place to be! It is a vibrant, successful 11-16 community school with outstanding facilities, highly professional staff and students who are simply a joy to teach and have a thirst to learn.
Our results are the best in the Dudley Borough; however, we are so much more than that. The opportunity for students to develop their character, profile and cultural capital is evident in everything that we do. School is founded via the ethos of care and our House system of four Houses, one family. The post-holder will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, driven team who deliver an outstanding provision through engaging lessons and exciting enrichment opportunities.
We are looking to appoint an outstanding Lead First Aider to support students and staff with first aid, medical needs, provide general support for student welfare and to take a lead role for first aid during an emergency within school. In addition, the person appointed will require the willingness to contribute to some administration duties such as reprographics.
You need to be determined to drive up standards, have a positive approach and be committed to making a difference. In return you will get to work in an innovative and supportive school. We have an inclusive culture which attracts, welcomes, celebrates, retains and develops fantastic people. We have high expectations for all students and staff and aim to be brilliant in all we do. We are looking for staff who share this vision!
Experience of working in a school environment or with secondary aged students would be advantageous. However, relevant experience in a Social Services or Industrial environment would also be considered.
The candidate appointed must have a current First Aid at Work certificate (3-day course) and good ICT skills. Training will be provided for the successful applicant in the use of Arbor and other specialist systems.

About The Summerhill School
Summerhill School is a mainstream, co-educational, non-denominational, community secondary school for children aged 11-16. It is situated in Kingswinford, outside Dudley in the West Midlands, and there are 1,093 students on its roll.
We are a school that is grounded in our local community. We have wonderful children, caring and supportive parents and a great team of staff. We have modern, well-equipped facilities and are located within beautiful countryside. We are heavily over-subscribed and members of our school community can be genuinely proud to be part of Summerhill.
Headteacher
Mr Tim Harris
Vision and values
Every Summerhill student wears the words “Success through Caring” on their uniform and every Summerhill staff member wears "Success through Caring" on their lanyard - this philosophy genuinely runs through everything we do. We are very proud of the success we have achieved, but we never forget that this is built on a bedrock of caring.
At Summerhill, our House system is absolutely central to school life. It provides nurturing, challenge, teamwork, and fun for all members of our school, building upon a foundation of supportive relationships, family and British values within a global society. Mature and mutually respectful relationships characterise our community and we strive for excellence in every way as we develop young people in partnership with parents and the wider community.
High Expectations
The values that are instilled into young people during their formative years will stay with them forever. We want to be proud of every single Summerhill student, so we focus on 4 key elements that together spell “CARE”. These will lead to success at school, but also for the rest of our students’ lives:
Courage
• Honesty, integrity, doing the right thing even when it’s difficult
• Trying new experiences
• Being resilient and never giving up
Ambition
• Always aiming to be brilliant and demonstrating self-discipline
• Setting a great example as a role model and helping other people to improve
• Being curious and looking for ways to learn more
Respect
• Respecting differences; standing against prejudice and discrimination
• Caring for our local / global environment
• Working well with a wide range of other people; being a great team player
Effort
• Always being focused and organised
• Taking pride in being smart, meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work
• Having high levels of attendance and punctuality
Summerhill students achieve superb examination results. Our attainment levels have been well above the national and local patterns for many years: our attainment 8 score for 2025 of 51.5 is almost 5 points higher than the national average and more than 8 points above the local average. Our Progress 8 score for 2024 was +0.43 and modelling suggests that our 2025 score would be at a similar level if national figures were being published. We are proud of what we have achieved but are not complacent and keep looking for ways to improve!
