About The Role
The Medical Centre Team sits at the heart of the school’s pastoral provision, playing a key role in promoting the physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing of students across our 4–18 community. As part of a wider collaborative network—including pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff, and First Aid colleagues—the team ensures that every pupil is safe, supported and able to thrive.
Open daily from 8.00am–5.30pm, the Medical Centre is a welcoming hub offering responsive medical care and ongoing wellbeing support. This includes the assessment, treatment and monitoring of pupils with health needs, the provision of first aid, and early intervention for students who may require emotional or psychological guidance. The Lead School Nurse contributes not only to the day‑to‑day operation of the Medical Centre but also to the school’s broader pastoral strategy, bringing clinical leadership, professional expertise and compassionate oversight. It is a varied and vital role within the whole school community. In making an appointment, the School will consider both the experience and the potential of candidates. The Lead Nurse reports directly to the Deputy Head Pastoral.
About You
Key responsibilities include administering Medical and First aid when required, communication and record keeping as well as pastoral support where required. Our job pack attached has a broader picture of what the Lead Nurse at Habs involves.
Knowledge and Experience Required:
RSCN/RN Child Diploma or Degree, RN and RMN
At least 5 year post qualification
Current NMC registration
ILS or PILS certification (desirable)
Safeguarding Level 3 (desirable)
Full driving licence (desirable)
Previous school nursing experience (desirable)
Primary health care experience (desirable)
Mental Health Nursing – ideally with adolescents (desirable)
Accident and Emergency experience (desirable)

About Haberdashers' Boys' School
Haberdashers' Boys' School is a large independent school located in the village of Elstree, Hertfordshire. Founded in 1690, the all-through school educates around 1,200 boys aged 5-18, all of whom are day pupils.
The School has a selective admissions policy, with prospective students for the senior school expected to pass entrance exams across a range of subjects. The best-performing boys are interviewed to ascertain their suitability for a place at the School. Entrance to the pre-prep and prep departments is also selective, with assessed playgroup sessions and exams used depending on the boy’s age.
