We seek a talented and inspirational Lead Practitioner in English, SCITT & Teaching & Learning to join the Leadership Team.

We work closely with The Gorse Academies Trust, a Leeds-based MAT containing a number of outstanding academies and an outstanding SCITT - The Gorse SCITT. In order to roll out their highly effective teacher training programme to East Yorkshire, The Gorse SCITT has secured funding to set up an East Yorkshire branch within Headlands School. Our new Lead Practitioner will be employed by Headlands School to work with our Deputy Headteacher to develop and co-ordinate our new SCITT.

In addition you will:

  • lead the development of our Stretch and Challenge policy and practice, establishing the school as a centre of excellence for the teaching of more-able students
  • teach English Language and English Literature to GCSE and possibly A-Level.

This is not your average leadership role … this truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make your mark on education in this country. Together we will develop our revolutionary approach to teaching and learning and teacher training.

If this opportunity excites you as much as it does us, we look forward to hearing from you.

Bridlington is a coastal town which is undergoing rapid regeneration and significant financial investment. Quality of life in the East Riding is exceptionally high - housing is plentiful and prices are lower than many other parts of the country.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This appointment will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Headlands is a lively, vibrant, friendly and purposeful community. We also believe that this positive school ethos significantly impacts on the health and well-being of students and staff. This is a happy and successful school.

Headlands now operates a Vertical Tutor Group system. In this system tutor groups are created from a mixture of year groups from year 7 – 11. The school is divided into five Houses to which a number of the groups belong.

Headlands School is very proud of its status as a Specialist Science College. We were one of the first schools in the country to achieve this status and are preparing for re-designation this year.

Being a Specialist College means we:
• are a member of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust
• are able to have smaller GCSE classes in some subjects
• can run a number of extra GCSE classes that do not normally run at state schools
(such as Geology and Astronomy)
• can run classes for the community such as GCSE Maths and ICT training
• have frequent events and trips for pupils
