We are seeking an outstanding, ambitious and highly motivated Lead Practitioner for Mathematics to join Ferryhill School from January 2027.
This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional classroom practitioner to make a significant contribution to the continued development of Mathematics at Ferryhill. The successful candidate will combine excellent classroom practice with the ability to influence teaching and learning beyond their own classroom, supporting colleagues and helping to strengthen practice across the department.
Working closely with the Director of Learning and senior leaders, you will play a key role in developing teaching, curriculum and assessment, while supporting our ambition to provide every student with a challenging, engaging and highly effective mathematical education.
Our Mathematics curriculum is carefully sequenced through a spiralling approach, enabling students to revisit key concepts, build securely on prior knowledge and develop increasing confidence and fluency over time. Students develop their understanding across Number, Ratio and Proportion, Algebra, Probability, Statistics, Geometry and Measures, alongside the problem-solving, reasoning and analytical skills required for mathematics, further study and everyday life.
At Key Stage 4, students work towards Edexcel GCSE Mathematics, with additional opportunities including AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics and Entry Level qualifications where appropriate.
As Lead Practitioner, you will help ensure this curriculum is delivered consistently and exceptionally well and lead Numeracy across the Curriculum.

About Ferryhill School
Set on a ridge on the outskirts of Ferryhill, Ferryhill School benefits from magnificent views and spacious grounds. The building dates back to 1964 when it opened as Ferryhill Technical Grammar School. Most of the premises still service its occupants well having been updated, repaired and refurbished.
Ferryhill School is an 11-16 mixed school with some 800 students drawn from over 10 feeder primary schools in the local area including Ferryhill, Ferryhill Station and Chilton. Excellent liaison with our partner primary schools allow for curriculum links and effective information transfer, as well as initiatives such as summer schools and More Able provision.
The college’s mission is achievement for all; to provide a caring, orderly environment in which all students learn and develop to their full potential.
