Are you passionate about English Language and Literature education, and working with students from Year 7 to Year 13, in order to ignite a deep love of learning in English? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified, experienced Lead Practitioner in English to join our vibrant and enthusiastic English team. We were judged to be a GOOD school by Ofsted in May 2023, and strive every single day to continue to make our school a truly great place to learn and to teach, with the futures of our young people at the heart of all we do.
We are looking for a natural leader who will support our Head of English to raise attainment and progress through the development of top-quality teaching and learning resources and practices in the English department, leading professional development opportunities for staff in the English department and across the school. You will lead, inspire, collaborate with, and motivate colleagues in developing their teaching and improve outcomes, helping us to inspire a new generation of English specialists.
We are looking for someone who is ambitious for themselves and for our students; who sets high standards inside and outside the classroom. The right candidate will want to help us to create curious and capable young linguists, demonstrating a real, and infectious passion for teaching and learning every single day.
We can offer you a lead practitioner post in a vibrant 11-18 comprehensive school on the beautiful north Cornwall coast. You will be well supported, trusted to innovate, and expected to contribute fully to departmental and whole school improvement.

Budehaven Community School is located on the beautiful north Cornwall coast in the town of Bude.
We are proud to be a fully comprehensive school, providing education to students from ages 11 to 19.

We are proud to have been judged to be a GOOD school by Ofsted (February, 2017). Our students achieve well: younger students follow a mastery curriculum that builds on prior knowledge and understanding in a spiral way, linking ideas within and across subjects. As a result, Key Stage 3 prepares them well for the challenges of GCSEs. Our Year 11 students’ GCSE results in 2018 showed a year on year increase in the number of students making good progress, and the percentage of students that achieved a Grade 5 or higher in English and maths was significantly higher than other local schools.
We are incredibly proud of our Sixth Form, which provides a range of A Level and BTec courses that cater for the academic requirements of all members of our school community, leading to them achieving top results. We are also very proud of our Sixth Form students; every year many of them go on to Oxbridge, Russell Group, national and international universities.
Budehaven students and staff are proud of our school and the community it serves. We are ambitious for our students, academically and for their development into curious young people. Our students understand and can articulate their thoughts and ideas on a wide range of topics, from climate change to politics, economics to science.
