Job overview
LP1 – LP5
Required for a January 2027 start
Golborne is a flourishing 11-16 secondary school that is proud to provide an exceptional education for the children of Golborne and Lowton. We are one of a very small number of state, comprehensive secondary schools in the North West to be awarded an Ofsted judgement of Outstanding, and we are exceptionally proud of what this means for the pupils who attend our school and the staff who work here. As well as strong GCSE results, pupils at Golborne receive a well-rounded curriculum and a wide range of opportunities for personal development beyond the classroom.
Under the leadership of the Headteacher, Golborne is excited to continue our journey to become a beacon of excellence at the heart of the community. We believe that our staff are our greatest asset and we invest in them by putting their wellbeing and development at the centre of all we do. We operate a flexible working policy that allows staff to work from home when appropriate and we have a wellbeing policy that rewards and motivates staff. We are the lead school for Wigan Institute of Education and work together with our partners to deliver Initial Teacher Training, school to school support, exceptional CPD and early career framework structures. We deliver an exceptional in-house induction programme and bespoke CPD pathways for staff at all stages of their career.
We are looking to appoint an exceptional Teacher of Science to join our Teaching and Learning Team as a Lead Practitioner. You will support the Science Leadership Team in a modelling and coaching capacity to ensure that an already successful faculty reaches its goal of ‘outstanding’.
We would welcome applications from experienced teachers with a strong and proven track record of success in public examinations. We would also welcome applications from colleagues at a relatively early stage of their career who have exceptional subject knowledge, strong leadership potential and a clear understanding of how to enable all students to make outstanding progress in their learning and have a love of research.
An application form can be found on the school website Welcome to Golborne High School
Closing date: Monday 12th October 2026 at 8am
Interviews: Date to be confirmed
Golborne High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The post is covered by the Protection of Children Act and is therefore subject to enhanced DBS clearance.
It should be noted that it is a requirement of the Governors of Golborne High School that candidates should, whenever possible, name as referees current and former employers (via Heads or Principals where employment at educational institutions is concerned).
Shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online search. The search is not part of the shortlisting process itself and the candidate will have the opportunity to address any issues of concern that come up during the search at interview.
We look forward to receiving your application should you be interested. If you have not heard from us by the interview date, you may assume that your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer feedback on individual applications that are not shortlisted for interview.
