Contract type:  Full time

Contract Term:  Permanent

You are a highly successful teacher, held in the highest regard by pupils, teachers and of course your headteacher! There’s never an ‘easy’ or a ‘right’ time to take the next step, but with Year 11 and 13 about to show the world how great they (and you) are in the exam halls, now might actually be the time to act. Don’t let this opportunity slip through your fingers!

Southmoor Academy is going places and we only want the best – for our teachers, pupils and the community we serve. Easy to say but we have a strong track record of achieving success. Read on to discover why!

We are seeking a strong Maths teacher who can deliver results. This will be the core of what you do. However, because our team is strong, our school is growing, and we are ambitious, we will tailor the rest to your goals and professional development needs. So, if action research collaboration is your thing, we have a world of excitement waiting! Equally if achievement leadership and becoming a vice principal (and even a head) is your ambition we will embrace this and help you make it happen. This post is paid on the leadership scale. Whether you are a main scale maths teacher, or a serving assistant head matters not. Pay will reflect what you can offer.

You DON’T necessarily need:

• A long time served in the classroom.

• Significant leadership experience.

• An existing TLR.

You DO need

• Teaching talent.

• Drive and ambition to improve student results.

• Cast iron evidence of how you have delivered strong GCSE results over time

• A personal desire to be the best.

In return we offer:

• Additional holiday as part of our unique Smart and flexible Working initiatives. Talk to our staff who benefit from additional flexibility and the ability to finally get cheaper flights!

• A two-week October half term and seven-week summer holiday!

• A highly competitive salary regardless of your current salary levels.

• A key post in a successful academy with the opportunity for further promotion and development within a growing trust.

• A supportive working environment within a team of highly effective practitioners who already achieve high standards (2018 attainment is well above national averages).

• The opportunity to shape your own future career path in close consultation with Trust Senior Leadership.

• A recognised share in our success.

• Please visit Southmoor Way of Working for further information on what makes us different.

We are a highly successful Multi Academy Trust currently comprising of two secondary schools: Southmoor Academy; a very successful 11-18 academy with a sixth form in the top 20% nationally, and Sandhill View Academy; a rapidly improving 11-16 academy.

In November 2017, Ofsted said, “Southmoor Academy is a good and improving school where pupils are achieving well. The headteacher provides strong and effective leadership… effectively assisted by leaders at all levels. Good teaching, learning and assessment enable all groups of pupils to progress well.”

In March 2018, Ofsted said of Sandhill View Academy, “Leaders have taken firm action to improve the quality of subject leadership across the school, with the result that there is now a strong team with clarity about the areas that they need to improve further. Teachers, subject leaders and staff are enthusiastic and positive about the school’s current position and its ability to improve further.”

We are seeking the very best talent and to this end we are in no rush and will not compromise on quality.

Prospective candidates are warmly invited to visit Southmoor, where this post is based. In order to accommodate your needs this can also include times beyond the school day. Values and vision

Southmoor Academy prides itself on being one of Sunderland’s highest ranking schools and has the motto "aspire, achieve, enjoy". The secondary school works to give all students the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background. Teachers allow pupils to develop their interests and skills through extra-curricular activities, creative arts or sport, alongside the regular curriculum.

Community is at the heart of the academy and pupils are encouraged to take an interest in their surroundings. Southmoor Academy specialises in maths and computing. The school also offers professional football training and coaching through the Martin Gray Football Academy.

Ofsted report

“Academy data, evidence from lesson observations, discussions with students and detailed work scrutiny show that students are making good progress. Their good achievement is a result of increasingly strong teaching and the very effective targeted support of students most at risk of underachieving. Most parents and carers who responded to the on-line questionnaire believe that their children make good progress."
