Job overview

Lead Practitioner of History

Pay Scale: LP3 – LP7

We are a vibrant, forward-thinking school that places significant value on professional learning and career development. We are seeking an ambitious, highly motivated and innovative Lead Practitioner of History to join our welcoming and high performing Humanities team. We believe all students have the right to develop their capabilities and skills to thrive in their studies and take them to the next level.

The humanities faculty (comprising History, Geography and RE) is a friendly, hard-working team, committed to stimulating students’ interest and enjoyment in their studies, with a strong team ethos of collaborative planning and shared resources. History is a popular subject throughout all year groups and therefore we are looking for someone who can bring passion and knowledge to our students through engaging and exciting lessons.

This post is ideal for candidates who have a sustained track record of successful performance as a Teacher of History, looking to have a impact on learning beyond their own classroom. Post holders will provide subject enhancement for History but also across the Humanities faculty and the school. We can offer a very good opportunity to develop your career within one of our most successful faculties working with a successful and very supportive team.

We place significant emphasis on working collegiately as a faculty to share our expertise and subsequently enhance the learning experience with our students. Every member of the staff is involved in a variety of professional learning programmes that take place across the academic year.

We would like the successful applicant to start September 2024.

With our trust growing, we are likely to have many more career development opportunities coming up in future.

Closing date for applications is: Monday 22nd April 2024 at 9:00am.

(We may interview suitable candidates prior to the closing date.)

Kingsthorpe College is an oversubscribed 11-18 Academy with approximately 1400 students on roll (200 students Post 16). We were graded by Ofsted as Good in all areas in December 2019, and we are now looking forward to the next stage of our journey from good to great.

In September 2021, we joined Orbis Education Trust, and this has unlocked further possibilities for colleagues to develop, progress, and make a significant contribution to inspiring the students within our schools. We therefore believe it is an exciting time to join #TeamKC and be part of a community which is resolute in its drive to help our students leave with the confidence and skills to be able to take part in the great conversations of our times.

Our Ethos and Culture

A genuine commitment to respect for individuals is shown in the daily life of Kingsthorpe College. One of the first things you notice when you walk into College is how nice everybody is to each other – how frequently people smile, share a friendly joke, take an interest in each other and find something positive and encouraging to say. It is also a very calm, relaxed place – not because there is never any noise (!) but because we make a point of ‘not shouting’.

Young people hate being shouted at (so do adults actually). It makes it harder for them to listen and respond positively. We believe that people choose their own behaviour and making the right choice is sometimes easier for some than others – but everybody chooses. Students at Kingsthorpe College appreciate the fact that, as a College, we are extremely fortunate that our young people usually make the right decision. They are very well behaved so that every minute of every lesson is made to count.

Staff at the school also understand that people appreciate being noticed for doing the right thing. We therefore make a point of praising and rewarding at every opportunity so that students feel good about themselves as often as possible. This goes for the staff too!

Our shared values of Aspiration, Responsibility, Respect and Care
