Tes is seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational Lead Practitioner of Mathematics to join an innovative school from September 2020.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an 'Outstanding' 11-18 school where students consistently outperform national expectations in terms of both attainment and progress. You will be joining one of the most popular and successful schools in north London.

 It is a mixed, non-denominational community comprehensive secondary school and sixth form for pupils aged 11-18. It is located in Enfield with approximately 1,500 pupils on roll. The school opened in the year 2000 in state of the art buildings, set in beautiful landscaped grounds. 

The mathematics faculty are a friendly, hardworking team with a wealth and range of experience. It has a suite of 7 teaching rooms and access to chromebooks and visualizers to aid learning. The faculty consistently delivers excellent GCSE results with 83% of students at grade 4+ last year. Maths is the most popular subject taken up at A level with 3 maths classes and 1 further maths class in both years 12 and 13 and a successful and suitable qualified candidate would have the opportunity to teach at KS5. The school follows the Edexcel GCSE and A Level specifications. The most able students from all years take part in the Maths Challenge with students regularly qualifying for the European Maths challenges. The department is committed to initial teacher training, career progression and ensuring that all staff have the opportunity for high quality CPD.

The role of Lead Practitioner is to assist the Director of Maths and whole school numeracy in the robust self-evaluation of teaching and learning and make a significant contribution to im­proving the quality of teaching and learning within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will also ensure your own lessons consistently model best practice
  • Support staff to make progress on the schools teaching and learning programmes
  • Support and coach staff in developing and extending their pedagogic repertoire
  • Contribute to the schemes of work within the department
  • Assist with strategic planning for students with SEN
  • Model best practice in the setting of homework in line with school policy
  • Model best practice in the effective use of student performance data and student and staff target setting so that this impacts on classroom practice and contributes to raising achievements
  • Lead and develop the mentoring programme for early stage teachers within the department and contribute to whole school mentoring


You Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Appropriate qualifications in Mathematics or related disciplines
  • Successful teaching experience and KS3 and KS4, and preferably KS5
  • Ability to motivate students and staff
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working with pupils from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Experience of leading a team and/or developing others/or working collaboratively 


The school is highly committed to developing staff, where weekly CPD is offered. The school can offer staff places on the Outstanding Teacher Programme, NPQML and other bespoke courses.
