This is an exciting opportunity for a talented teacher of Science to lead and develop the quality of Learning and Teaching in Science at The Orme Academy, and also to provide support to other Science Departments in Shaw Education Trust through being designated as a Trust Professional Advocate.  This post has arisen to build on the rapid progress already made at the Academy.  For the right candidate, the role also offers the potential opportunity for wider Academy leadership development in Learning and Teaching in the future.  We are looking for someone who can not only deliver high quality lessons themselves, but also has an infectious desire and ability to develop others to those same high standards both in school and across our Trust.  The department is fully staffed with Science specialists and therefore provides an opportunity to develop an outstanding team of teachers.

The sole ethos for the school community is ‘Empowering Learners for Life’.  Whilst we are committed to ensuring that every student makes excellent progress, this concept stretches well beyond academic performance.  We firmly believe that every aspect of school should equip learners to be successful in all areas of their lives, both now and for their future.  Indeed, every single decision or action taken improves the life chances of all our learners.  This is underpinned by ensuring the Academy is a safe, nurturing and happy environment: put simply, The Orme Academy is a great place to learn and a great place to work.

This ethos applies equally to the staff.  We believe in empowering our staff to be aspirational and effective leaders of learning and provide a strong programme of CPD and induction to support those joining our vibrant community.   This CPD includes being part of a large MAT, with its own Institute of Education (IoE) focused on the development of staff.  The IoE provides access to wide range of network hubs, subject experts and access to best practice, as well as bespoke CPD opportunities.  As a designated Professional Advocate for the Trust, you will work within the IoE to, for example, lead peer-reviews in Science across the Trust and provide 1:1 support to teachers and Science departments.  You will be fully supported to do this through a bespoke Trust CPD programme to enable you to work effectively in this role.  There is also the opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake fully funded Masters Degree study. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly professional and committed team of staff whilst also playing their part in the success and future development of our Academy and Trust.

The Shaw Education Trust offer the following benefits with your employment:

• An excellent Local Government Pension Scheme / Teachers Pension

• Access to health and wellbeing support via Occupational Health

• Cycle to work scheme

• Access to our Institute of Education and fantastic opportunities to help you grow, contribute and flourish in your role and in the Trust.

The Orme Academy is dedicated to the safeguarding and wellbeing of students; all staff must share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo appropriate screening including Enhanced DBS check.

I am extremely proud and privileged to be the Principal of The Orme Academy and the community that it serves. My sole ethos for the school community is ‘Empowering Learners for Life’. Whilst I am committed to ensuring that every student makes excellent progress, this concept stretches well beyond academic performance. I firmly believe that every aspect of school should equip learners to be successful in all areas of their lives, both now and for their future.  Indeed, every single decision or action taken improves the life chances of all our learners. This is underpinned by ensuring the Academy is a safe, nurturing and happy environment: put simply, The Orme Academy is a great place to learn and a great place to work.

I have relentlessly high expectations of those associated with the Academy; I expect everyone to be their very best at all times. We have extremely high standards and aspirations for our staff and students which are reflected throughout the Academy and I expect all who are associated with the Academy to reflect these too. We are committed to working in partnership with parents and members of our local community to ensure the very best support and opportunities for our students so that they can fulfil their potential.

The Orme Academy is an increasingly popular first choice for education across the area: for entry in Year 7 we are oversubscribed meaning that the number of applications exceeds the pupil admission number. This reflects the significant improvements that are constantly being made within the Academy and the very strong reputation we are developing within the local and wider area. If you would like to come and see what The Orme Academy has to offer, please do not hesitate to contact us.
