We are seeking to appoint a talented, experience, committed and inspirational Lead Practitioner for Science from January 2017 (or earlier) who will:

  • Have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the content required for the new science syllabus
  • Be an exceptional classroom practitioner, delivering a range of resources and lessons that will stimulate, engage and challenge students of all abilities, with an exemplary track record of successful results.
  • Be prepared to lead action research within the department and beyond.
  • Ignite a passion for learning in all our students;
  • Be creative and dynamic in the classroom at all key stages;
  • Have the skills to form excellent working relationships with all individuals.

Current AST status is not essential; however, the successful candidate will have evidence of being an exemplary practitioner with a track record of outstanding results.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the continued development of teaching and learning across the whole ability range. St Augustine’s offers combined and separate sciences at GCSE and Biology, Physics, and Chemistry year 1 and year 2 at A Level. The successful candidates will have the ability to teach across all key stages.

The Science Department was refurbished as part of our involvement in the BSF programme and this included the rebuilding of 8 brand new laboratories. Science results are improving year on year and is a popular subject across the School, with uptake for courses at Post 16 being particularly high. The department works very effectively as a team and there are opportunities for support and mentoring for staff at all levels of development. This is alongside the substantial whole-school professional development programme that is embedded. St. Augustine’s prides itself on its staff development and the opportunities for this.

St. Augustine’s C.E. High School is a medium sized mixed comprehensive school situated on the doorstep of central London, in Kilburn. The school is fully inclusive and promotes excellence in learning, seeking to ensure that all students are the best that they can be; our dedicated staff are focused on quality and achievement whilst ensuring the happiness and well-being of our community.

Our collective hard work and determination to succeed was recognised by Ofsted, who judged our school to be ‘Outstanding’ in September 2013. Following our 2015 results, St. Augustine’s was recognised by The Minister of State for Education as being amongst the 100 top performing schools nationally in terms of the progress that our pupils on free school meals make between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 (including English and Maths). We were also recognised as being in the top 5% of schools nationally for the progress made by students.
