Job overview

An opportunity has arisen in the Secondary Phase for a well organised, enthusiastic Science Technician to join the Science Faculty at William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS), Manchester’s most over-subscribed non-selective school and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country.  William Hulme’s has just been named as being “in the top 20% of non-selective schools nationally for attainment and progress in the 2017 end of KS4 examinations, based on the students’ best 8 average point scores at key stage 4”.

WHGS is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1400 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds.  The Academy has this year opened a brand new Sixth Form Centre which has marked the completion of a huge expansion project over the last two years, so this is a very exciting time to join the school.

The Lead Technician role is vital in supporting teaching staff in the delivery of lessons through the preparation and organisation of practical equipment.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate relevant laboratory experience and the ability to meet deadlines and will line manage another Technician.

The position is full time, term time only.

A commitment to the school’s extra-curricular programme is desirable.  Within the Science Faculty a large range of activities (clubs, trips and visits) take place.

William Hulme’s is part of United Learning, a leading group of over 50 academies and independent schools.  This enables us to offer you a comprehensive induction programme and unrivalled support and career development opportunities to ensure you achieve your career ambitions and aspirations.  Through the United Learning Hub, employees have access to a wide-range of CPD and the opportunity to share good practice with peers across the Group.

Employees of United Learning are offered a number of employee benefits through its reward scheme, United Rewards.  This includes salary sacrifice schemes such as childcare vouchers, cycle to work schemes which offer tax and NI savings to you.  In addition, there are over 6,000 offers and discounts on top brands and local retailers.  This scheme is administered by Edenred.  For more information, once your employment has started, please visit www.unitedrewards.org.uk

Please apply through the William Hulme’s Grammar School website http://www.whgsacademy.org/Staff/Vacancies

Closing date: Thursday, 10 May 2018

Interviews: Friday, 18 May 2018

The school is fully committed to the safeguarding of children and all staff will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and full child protection/safeguarding training. United Learning is an equal opportunities employer.
