Then read on…

Springwell Learning Community are seeking an English specialist with a proven track record of outstanding practice in mainstream or an SEMH setting, who is able to work with vulnerable pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMHD).  The Lead Teacher will be required to teach English and will oversee the planning and support the delivery by non-specialists of English in key stages 3 and 4 in Springwell Special and Springwell Alternative Academies.  This position would suit an individual who is passionate about making a real difference to children’s life chances and supporting them in achieving their potential in this essential life skill, which is a high priority for Springwell.  The ability to be creative and use imaginative flair to engage is essential, along with having resilience, drive and high expectations to inspire children and young people to achieve. There is potential for a TLR 2a for this position for the right candidate.

About us…

As part of the Wellspring Multi Academy Trust, Springwell Learning Community comprises of Springwell Special Academy which is an outstanding cross-phase SEMH Special School with a national reputation for excellence in working with children and young people with special educational needs and SEMH and Springwell Alternative Academy.  Springwell is the lead school in a National Teaching School, ‘Positive Regard’ (formally Barnsley TSA). Springwell is at the cutting edge of educational development, involved in research and development, teacher training, bespoke CPD and school-to-school support. This creates obvious opportunities for professional development and career progression beyond the classroom.

Springwell Learning Community also incorporates EOTAS, Elective Home education and the Behaviour Support Service.

Springwell Learning Community is a child centred and values driven organisation.  Unconditional Positive Regard underpins everything, along with nurture principles, immersive compelling learning opportunities, a strong emphasis on literacy and personalised social and emotional development.

Springwell places a huge emphasis on professional development and invests significantly in staff training at all levels. This means that, although experience of working in an SEMH setting would be an advantage, specialist support and training will be provided for outstanding teachers wishing to make the career fulfilling move into special education.

The Executive Principal of Springwell is a member of the Headteachers’ Roundtable which is working at a national level to influence education policy. He is also an associate of Independent Thinking Limited and a National Leader of Education.

Two Schools - One Community

Springwell Learning Community is the umbrella name for Springwell Special Academy and Springwell Alternative Academy.  Springwell Special Academy provides cross-phase education for Barnsley children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Springwell Alternative Academy works in partnership with local primary and secondary schools to provide Day 6 provision.

Both of these schools are part of the Barnsley and Kirklees Special Provision Partnership, formed through additional collaboration of Greenacre School, Joseph Norton Academy and Springwell Learning Community.

At Springwell, our full time staff of around 100 is dedicated to ensuring that every pupil can settle quickly and is supported to make good progress in line with our vision and mission.

Both academies are the same as any other in that we have high expectations of our pupils. We build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively, we support pupils to access a broad range of subjects and qualifications, including GCSEs and we provide opportunities and facilities for pupils to develop special interests and talents through a range of extra-curricular activities.

However, we are different to other academies in that places at our special school are accessed via the SEND consultation process and places at our alternative academy are accessed via Fair Access.

Springwell Learning Community is a specialist provision for pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.  A number of our pupils have secondary needs including difficulties with their communication and learning.
