Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity to join Les Voies School in Guernsey and enjoy an exceptional future on a beautiful island, whilst helping our children and young people who have SEMH difficulties.

About you

We are looking for an innovative and dynamic science teacher with experience of successfully enabling children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties to fulfil their potential.

To be successful, you will have the ability to build excellent relationships with school staff, parents and professionals from other agencies and have high expectations of students. What's more, you will have an understanding of strategies and systems which promote successful learning and positive behaviour, together with a strong empathy and desire to meet the needs of our students.

About Les Voies

Les Voies School is a specialist educational provision for students with significant Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, many of whom have involvement from other agencies, such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS), Social Services and the Child, Youth and Community Tribunal.

The aim is to ensure that as a school the needs of all students are met and that they have opportunities commensurate with their peers.

The organisational arrangement for teaching may vary but will generally be in small group settings supported by a Teaching Assistant. All teachers are required to undertake the role of pastoral tutor for a group of named students.

This post carries an eight-year employment permit. If appointed, you can expect to:

  • Benefit from the stunning scenery and enviable quality of life;
  • Work in a well-resourced school that follows an innovative curriculum
  • Be part of a leading development of ICT in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.
