Job overview

Be part of a team that is passionate and committed to making a positive difference to the lives of the pupils and their families; in an innovative new school in Rugby, for children and young people with autism and/or social, emotional and mental health needs.

About Us

In September 2018, MacIntyre Academies Trust will be opening a new and exciting Academy in a purpose built state of the art building in Rugby, Warwickshire for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs and /or autism, aged between 9 years and 19 years.

Whilst the new building is being constructed the academy will be located in a temporary modern school building on the outskirts of Nuneaton and will open to 30 pupils in September 2017.

MacIntyre Academies is delighted to have been chosen to set up this new Academy which will join the existing ‘Endeavour Academy’ in Oxford which opened in 2014 and ‘Discovery Academy’ which opened in September 2015.

MacIntyre Academies is sponsored by MacIntyre Charity, which over the last 50 years, has developed a strong reputation nationally, as a high quality, person centred organisation.

The Role

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to set up a science department in a brand new laboratory from scratch. As our lead teacher for Science you will work with a team of staff to inspire and empower the pupils to achieve ambitious outcomes in science.

You will lead the teaching and learning in Science and teach all students who will be timetabled in groups of 6– 10 with support from the trans-disciplinary team. Please be clear about the subjects you can offer at KS2, 3, 4 and 5.

Due to the nature of a small school it is likely that you will be required to teach topic work to your form group. It will be possible for you to teach other KS2 / 3 classes as well and other teachers take your class for Literacy or “Skills and Well Being sessions”.

The Academy is committed to the Professional Development of all; roles can be tailored to allow strengths to be shown as well as areas for development or professional interest to be experienced and understood.

About You

You will need to be an exceptional classroom practitioner, hold QTS and have demonstrable experience of implementing the national curriculum.

In our opening year we will cater for 30 Y 5- Y10 pupils, expanding to 55 pupils in our second year and 80 KS2 – KS5 pupils in year 3.  You will be able to implement strategies for raising achievement across the curriculum and be committed to your further professional development.

You will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders to successfully deliver the vision, ethos, aims and objectives of the academy.  This will enable successful learning and achievement by young people and sustained improvement in their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical well-being in preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

If you have Autism, SEMH or AP experience that will be an advantage but not required.
