Job overview

Lead Teacher of Computing

Full Time / Permanent

Start Date: 1st September 2024

Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR 2b (£30,000 - £46,525 + £5,351)

A recruitment and retention allowance will be considered for the right candidate

This is an opportunity for you to inspire the next generation of computer scientists, whilst working in an Ofsted rated good school, with the potential to earn a salary in excess of £53,000. We have a great track record of developing colleagues and providing opportunities for them to take the next steps in their career. Come and take a look at what is going on in our school and you won’t go away disappointed.

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Lead Teacher for Computing who will work alongside the Curriculum Leader to continue to develop this important subject. We operate a three-year key stage 3 in which all students study computing, taught by specialist teachers. GCSE computing is also offered across key stage 4 as an optional subject. We have an excellent professional development programme and support colleagues wishing to access further qualifications and leadership programmes.

We are looking for someone who is an effective leader with ambition, a good teacher and someone who cares about the progress that students make.

Should you wish to apply for the post, please complete the application form and include up to two pages of supplementary information about what you would bring to the role based on your experience to date.

Hathershaw College

The Hathershaw College is a very successful and oversubscribed 11-16 Academy within the Pinnacle Learning Trust, which consists of ourselves, Oldham Sixth Form College, Werneth Primary School and Broadfield Primary School. Alexandra Park Junior School will be joining the Trust from 1st April this year. We are also well located with good public transport links and excellent access to the motorway network.

You will see from our Ofsted report published in January 2022 that we have retained our good status. I would advise you to read the excellent report before applying. Key highlights from this include: “Pupils behave sensibly around the school and in lessons. They are respectful to other pupils, staff and visitors.” “Staff value the steps that leaders have taken to ease their workload and support their well-being.” Senior leaders have taken radical steps to manage the workload and well-being of colleagues by reducing unnecessary burdens and bureaucracy. These actions were rated highly in the most recent staff survey, which takes place on annual basis.

The Pinnacle Learning Trust

We celebrate students’ uniqueness and support our young people to flourish and become responsible, successful citizens who contribute positively to their communities. Our Trust invests in each member of staff, offering them professional development opportunities, including designation as Evidence Leads in Education for the Research School; delivery of school-to-school support; CPD facilitation and support for trainee teachers.  Staff have access to opportunities to develop their teaching practice, such as training on metacognition, virtual classroom coaching and retrieval practice. As a Trust, we celebrate diversity by encouraging an understanding of our communities, faiths and cultures.
