Job overview

Astrea Academy Trust is at an exciting period of growth and development. To support our ambitions, we are seeking to appoint a dedicated and inspirational Lead Teacher of English to join our Trust for September 2019.

We require an outstanding English practitioner to raise standards of teaching and learning within our South Yorkshire Secondary academies. You will be deployed to one or two academies within the region, working alongside the National Lead and Heads of English to ensure the consistent delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum.

You will be a skilful English teacher who has a proven record of securing strong pupil outcomes. You might already have subject leadership experience, but we would be equally delighted to hear from strong English teachers who have a real desire to raise aspirations and progress in schools.

Candidates will need to demonstrate;

• Excellent classroom teaching
• Proven experience of raising attainment and progress
• The ability to work collaboratively and flexibly to secure the best outcomes
• Strong subject knowledge of GCSE English Language & Literature
• Excellent interpersonal skills

With over 25 academies within the group, across South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire, Astrea Academy Trust continues to grow and inspire beyond measure.

Our academies – primary, secondary and all-through – do not subscribe to the ‘schooling’ stance of a results-driven philosophy but rather state emphatically that education is about much more than just attainment. Our culture of innovation and creativity enables individuals to challenge the preconceptions of education and helps to sculpt the educational landscape of the future.

Astrea is passionate about cultivating our own talented workforce. We are committed to high quality professional development and career opportunities for all staff. We have established career progression pathways through into leadership positions; pedagogy leaders, subject leaders and fast track programmes into Headship.

The investment we place in our employees is one of the many reasons why we have some of the highest job satisfaction rates across the education sector.

If you are motivated by contributing to a culture of constant improvement, and if you are seeking to improve outcomes for young people in a dynamic and growing Academy Trust, then we would love to hear from you.

We welcome applications from candidates who meet the criteria in the accompanying recruitment pack. To apply for this exciting role, please complete an Astrea application form and email it to: recruitment@astreaacademytrust.org by the closing date below.

We look forward to welcoming you to our supportive team. Join us and together we can inspire beyond measure.

For an informal discussion about this opportunity, please contact Tom Gardiner, Astrea’s National Leader for English and Literacy, on 07393 23 7673 or email tom.gardiner@astreaacademytrust.org

Closing date: Monday 18th March at 12 noon

Interviews to be held on Thursday 21st March

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Posts are subject to enhanced DBS checks.
