Job overview

Lead Teacher of History

Currently undergoing an exciting and successful transformation in learning and teaching, we are actively seeking to appoint outstanding and innovative teachers to join us and help shape our journey from Good to Outstanding.

We therefore seek a dynamic, highly motivated and inspirational History teacher to join our successful Humanities Faculty in September 2017. History is a strong subject within the faculty, with a 3 year GCSE average in the top 20% of the country, so we are keen to find a leader to develop the subject further at this time of great change. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a school where standards in the History Department have been strong for many years and the subject is very popular at both GCSE and in the Sixth Form.

This is an excellent career opportunity for a colleague who is passionate about the entitlement of young people to acquire an understanding of human culture through a challenging and vibrant curriculum. In return, we can offer a great school to work within, a personalised induction and support programme for new staff and many opportunities for professional development.

We have a joint Sixth Form with our partner school, the Sir John Colfox Academy in Bridport, with A-Level teaching in Years 12 and 13 shared between the two schools.

You will have an unwavering belief in the potential of every student, and a contagious enthusiasm for your subject which will excite and motivate all students to achieve their very best. You will:

  • Engage, inspire and enthuse students through a genuine passion for your subject and for learning
  • Have high expectations of student achievement and behaviour
  • Be a great classroom practitioner
  • Be forward thinking, creative and well organised
  • Be enthusiastic, resourceful and fully committed to securing student progress.

Our popular and successful school (11–18) stands in beautiful open countryside on the edge of Beaminster, a Dorset town with great charm and historic interest, just 6 miles from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Please do get in touch if you would like to arrange this.

We value the diversity of our workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community. Beaminster School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. You are required to have enhanced DBS clearance.
