We require an enthusiastic and driven teacher to be a Middle Leader in the Humanities Department with a particular focus on Geography.

We are an 11-16 oversubscribed Catholic comprehensive school that received a ‘Good’ judgement in July 2012 from Ofsted and ‘Good’ from the Diocesan Inspectorate in October 2012. We are a ‘Catholic School for All’ with the Mission Statement ‘to educate each and every unique child in our care to hear and respond to what God calls them to be’. All subjects in the Humanities Department are very popular option choices for the children at Saint John Wall Catholic School. Results in the Humanities subjects are significantly above national average.

The school is in the process of change and raising standards. The successful candidate will;need to be able to actively lead and support the Head of Humanities and MFL family with raising standards of student attainment and achievement within the Geography area of the Humanities Department and to monitor and support student progress.
This would include leading department briefings and meetings, quality assurance of teaching and learning in the department, monitoring and tracking progress, leading interventions and working with other middle leaders, conducting and overseeing the appraisal process.
There are six members of the Humanities team which includes a Head of Humanities and Lead Teacher of MFL. The Humanities Department forms a larger family of subjects with Modern Foreign Languages.

The successful candidate will;

  • Have a strong commitment to high standards of classroom practice and will understand the importance of excellent learning and teaching, having a genuine regard for young people and high professional standards. The ability to work in a team is essential; sharing good practice and providing opportunities for students and staff at different stages of their learning or careers.
  • A track record of effective leadership with evidence of impact on pupil outcomes is desirable, however, this post would suit someone who is looking for their first leadership role.

If you are well motivated, passionate about your work and the achievement of pupils then this could be the job for you. You will be assured of joining a friendly and supportive staff.

Please note that there is an expectation within our school that all staff take responsibility for supporting our Catholic ethos and for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.

Closing Date: Friday 27 January 2017, 12 noon
