Job overview

Permanent, Qualified Teachers’ pay scale plus TLR 2B

From April 2022

We are seeking a qualified teacher who has experience of coordinating activity provision to take over the running of our Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, camps and outdoor education programme.  The successful candidate will be an inspirational and passionate practitioner with a strong belief in the value of outdoor education.  You will have excellent relationship building skills to be a positive role model for our students together with the commitment, passion and resilience to make a difference to all students.

Outdoor Education is at the heart of Haygrove School with a significant number of students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme at some point in their school career.  We have a committed team of both school staff and volunteers who would work with the successful candidate in the planning and administration of the delivery of our outdoor education programme within school.  There is both the scope and ambition to further develop our outdoor provision and we are looking to attract a candidate who shares our aspiration and drive to develop a truly exceptional programme.  The post offers the right candidate an opportunity to have a significant impact on the future of Outdoor Education at Haygrove and the potential to develop ambitious plans for collaboration across our Trust schools.

As an experienced teacher, the successful candidate would retain a part-time teaching commitment but will be given time off timetable and a Teaching and Learning Responsibility allowance to manage our Outdoor Education provision.  All subject specialisms would be considered but we would be particularly interested to hear from candidates who are looking to teach Mathematics, Science or a Humanities subject.  This is a full-time post but flexible working options would be considered.

We are an over-subscribed 11-16 mixed school in the beautiful county of Somerset with a reputation for excellent academic results, good standards of behaviour and a caring and inclusive environment.

Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2016, our outstanding GCSE results are amongst the best in the county with 76% achieving grade 9-4 in English and 74% achieving grade 9-4 in Maths in 2019.

As a multi-academy trust, we are well positioned to recruit and develop high quality teachers who aspire to be expert practitioners working across a trust and potentially taking on leadership responsibilities.  We work closely with several higher education establishments in the South West and local teaching alliances in order to ensure top quality training opportunities and accredited courses, in addition to our annual in-house programme of personalised training.

The successful candidate will:

• Be a highly motivated individual with commitment and a vision for excellence

• Have the ability to engage and inspire students and build excellent relationships

• Be committed to continuous improvement and the development of the Quantock Education Trust

• Be committed to the ethos, values and vision of the Quantock Education Trust

• Be enthusiastic and ambitious in continually improving teaching and learning

• Be enthusiastic and ambitious about own career development

In return, as a member of the Quantock Education Trust, we can offer you:

• A personalised professional development programme

• An inspirational staff team who willingly support each other

• A caring ethos that inspires success for all

• Well motivated and enthusiastic learners

• A wide range of extra-curricular activities

• A full programme of induction and support for new staff

• A culture of high expectation and professional standards

Values and vision

The Haygrove School ethos is characterised by traditional values, high expectations, rich opportunities, mutual respect, personal responsibility and pride. Fostered here is a culture of endeavour, enjoyment of learning and the pursuit of individual achievement in all aspects of school and community life.

The Haygrove School mission is to enable all students to flourish academically and to develop into confident, courteous and well-rounded young adults, skilled and equipped for adulthood. Key to the school’s aims is providing a Key Stage 4 curriculum that offers scope for individual choice as well as academic rigour.

Ofsted report

“Students’ behaviour and attendance have improved markedly since the introduction of a wider range of courses in Years 10 and 11, the mentoring of vulnerable students and the sharper systems for managing inappropriate behaviour. Attendance is above average and shows a trend of improvement, while exclusions have fallen dramatically and are now at a low level. The very large majority of parents and carers feel that their child is safe at the academy and that the standard of behaviour is good.”
