Job overview

Macau Anglican College is seeking a vibrant and detail-oriented music educator to lead their Secondary Music team. As the Lead Teacher of Secondary Music you will be leading two other teachers within the department and will be responsible for the direction of the Secondary Music program. You will also need to coordinate with the Lead Teacher of Primary Music in order to create a smooth transition for students as they graduate primary and move into secondary and report regularly to the Head of Secondary in school-wide matters.

Macau Anglican College is a K1-F6 institute that delivers a combination of local and international curricula, with secondary students having an option to take IGCSE, AS and A levels in Forms 4-6. Secondary students also participate in compulsory music class until Form 5, and are streamed into Band, Strings and General music classes from Form 1 to 4. The college also boasts many after school ensembles, including Symphonic Wind Band, Concert Band, Vocal Group, Big Band and String Ensemble. There are 2 major in-school performances that the music department hosts each year while also supporting various activities both within the college and in the wider community.

The music department at the college has enjoyed significant growth over the last 5 years and it would be hoped that the new Lead Teacher of Secondary Music would continue the enhancement of the program. This role would be best suited to an educator with leadership experience or an experienced music educator that is seeking leadership opportunities. Experience with Concert Band directing and teaching IGCSE/AS/A level music would be an advantage, but applicants without this should also consider applying.

Macau Anglican College is an Anglican Foundation College that receives professional advice and financial backing from the Anglican Church in Hong Kong. It is the only exclusive Cambridge school in Macau.

Our school has Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary sections, and a total enrolment of approximately 1400 students. There are currently 111 subject teachers in total, comprising 19 in Kindergarten, 40 in Primary, and 52 in Secondary, as well as 13 teacher assistants and 14 inclusive education support staff.

We follow a curriculum approved by the Macau education department (DSEJ). The Primary and Secondary sections use the Cambridge international curriculum for most academic subjects and carefully integrate this with DSEJ requirements. Students learn the two main languages of the world – English and Putonghua.

Kindergarten covers K1 to K3. Primary starts at P1 and students graduate from primary in P6. Secondary students start junior high school in Form 1 and complete their senior high school at the end of Form 6.

Other than Chinese language subjects, all classes are taught in English.

Across the whole school, we place a high value on English, Chinese and Maths.

Students with special needs in Kindergarten, Primary or Secondary are supported by dedicated staff in the Inclusive Education Unit.
