Job overview

Vision for Education are in the process of recruiting a Lead Teacher with experience of working with children with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health Issues) to work in a Secondary Alternative Provision within the Rochdale LEA. An ability to build rapport with young people quickly, and then utilise positive relationships to help children to engage in subject material is essential.

The school’s ethos is to reintegrate young people back into mainstream education provision where possible. Many of the young people we educate have missed lots of schooling, have been excluded, are unable to manage in group situations or have chosen not to attend and have a statement of Special Educational Needs. We continually have to be creative in the way we offer education to ensure that all our young people can engage. To achieve their aim, The School has developed a unique education service that consists of an Ofsted registered Independent Special School, supported by residential homes. You will be considerate, patient and must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability. A passion for working with children is also a necessity.

The role requires an individual to facilitate the academic and emotional development of the young people accessing the provision. There will be a requirement for the Lead Teacher deliver a range of subjects to KS3 and 4 including ASDAN/ Functional skills up to GCSE.

The successful candidate will have:
Experience of teaching in a mainstream school at GCSE level

Teaching in a mainstream school at GCSE level

Teaching children with SEN and in particular children with SEMH

A high level of expertise in SEMH

Good written and verbal communication skills

To be able to plan and deliver lessons to meet the individual needs of learners

To be able to use AFL effectively in lesson to move learning forward
