Job overview

Lead Teacher - TLR 2b (£4529)

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed teacher of MFL to join a dedicated, collaborative and creative team.  Applications are welcome from experienced and newly-qualified teachers able to teach throughout the age and ability range. The school offers an excellent induction for NQTs and would be able to support you through your first year.

An additional allowance is available for candidates with the relevant skills or experience to take on the position of Lead Teacher of MFL.  The principal focus of this position is to develop the quality of teaching and learning across the department, as well as fulfilling other roles within the team, which will be negotiated following appointment.  This opportunity would particularly suit someone seeking to take their first steps into subject leadership but we would be keen to consider any practitioner with excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to raising standards and the ability to form positive relationships with young people.

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community.  Ofsted graded the school as ‘good’ for the first time in its history in July 2017, with the report noting that “School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid”.  We are full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, which provides opportunities for some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5.  The school works in close partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, within the Saffron Academy Trust.  Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks, including two teaching school alliances.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.  A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required for this post.  If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.
