Job overview

King Edward VI College, Stourbridge is a sixth form college and a member of the Heart of Mercia Trust. As A level specialists, we provide a deep and thorough academic curriculum and help our students to develop excellent independent study skills. Just as important is our broader development curriculum, with almost 100 different clubs, groups and activities operating on a weekly basis, and excellent preparation for careers and HE. Our students come from a great variety of social and cultural backgrounds, and we take pride in supporting them to form an active and friendly community.

We are looking for a part-time (0.8 FTE) Lead Tutor to join us with a start date of 30 August 2023.

Staff who provide support for students are central to the working of the College. With its emphasis on the educational, personal and social development of the individual student, these staff support and guide students, enabling the maximum benefit to be gained from the opportunities the College offers, so that each student can reach their full potential, preparing them for the next stage of their lives.

Lead tutors act as a point of support, advice and guidance within a faculty and deal with referrals from staff for students with complex issues. They will support and promote equality and diversity, safeguarding and child protection awareness within the college; help to maintain and promote good discipline; help to develop a culture of mutual support; and share best practice within the lead tutor team.

The College is fully committed to supporting all members of staff through staff development and in-service training.

This is a permanent, part-time (0.8 FTE), term-time only post with 8 scheduled extra days (which will primarily be scheduled in late August, for enrolment counselling). Salary will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges Association support staff pay scale 23 - 27 which is currently £24,485.84 – £27,048.83 per annum for term-time only based on 0.8 FTE. The salary figure includes the payment of the 8 scheduled extra days.

Full requirements for the role can be found in the attached job description and person specification or from the college: email hr@kedst.ac.uk; or access information via the college website: www.kedst.ac.uk.

Please note that CVs cannot be accepted. Applications must be sent electronically in the original format (Word document). Closing date for applications is 9.00 am on Friday 23 June. Interviews are anticipated to take place on Wednesday 28 June.

King Edward VI College, Stourbridge is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check. The College celebrates diversity and aims to recruit a diverse range of staff.

As part of the shortlisting, King Edward VI College (part of Heart of Mercia Trust) may undertake an online search in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
