Job overview

We are a 13-19 High School in an attractive, semi-rural location in South Staffordshire with 700 students on roll.

The school is part of the Penk Valley Federation along with 3 other schools based in Penkridge: Marshbrook First School, Princefield First School and Penkridge Middle School. The vision of the Federation is to take collective responsibility for ensuring that every child and young person in our federation receives an excellent education, achieves high outcomes and realises their potential.

We are seeking to appoint a talented and (hopefully) inspirational teacher to lead the development of Art & Design in our school. We can offer you the opportunity to design a brilliant department. No caretakers /safe pair of hands required.

You will demonstrate strong teaching skills and an ability to motivate, enthuse and deliver dynamic and enjoyable lessons. You know you are not the finished article. You know you get things wrong from time to time, but you are prepared to reflect on your practice because you are always eager to learn and improve.

You will be passionate about showcasing your students’ work – in exhibitions, shows, around school and in the local community. You will be keen to run appropriate trips and visits. You will bang the drum for creativity! Under your watch the numbers of students choosing Art & Design will grow.

You will immerse yourself in the school as a whole and will value and build links with other colleagues and subjects.

We currently offer the BTEC Art & Design qualification at Key Stage 4 and in the Sixth Form. The design aspect of those courses is very important to us. We can offer excellent facilities and equipment.

There are many opportunities for fantastic professional development because Wolgarston is committed to becoming a Visible Learning School (google John Hattie if this is new to you). We will provide you with full training and will expect you to fully embrace the visible learning approach. The school is a 100% school meaning we expect students to complete 100% of their work to the best of their ability. We believe that hard work is a good thing. And we expect students to be nice.

Successful candidates must:

  • Be able to inspire, enthuse and motivate students to ensure that they achieve their full potential
  • A passionate advocate of the subject who contributes effectively to departmental and whole school improvement
  • Eager to become a supportive Form Tutor
  • Able and willing to make a full contribution to the life of the school
  • Have high expectations of themselves and others
  • Be a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Be flexible and a good team player

We Offer:

  • A demanding yet rewarding community school where students and staff feel valued and supported
  • Students who are keen to learn and make rapid progress
  • A Federation with excellent CPD opportunities and commitment to staff advancement

This is a first class opportunity for someone to develop their career within a warm, supportive but highly professional environment.

  • Are you already, or determined to become, an expert teacher?
  • Are you passionate about helping every student succeed?
  • Are you a team player with the drive and determination to make a difference to the learning experience and outcomes of our students?
  • Will you grow Art & Design?

If you believe you meet all of the above we are looking forward to meeting you. Not sure? Why not come and have a coffee and a look around before applying? To arrange your visit please contact our Federation Business Manager Julie Ablewhite on 01785 788400 or email j-ablewhite@wolgarston.staffs.sch.uk

Application forms and job specification are available on the school website.

Closing date for the receipt of applications is Monday 24th April at 1.00pm.

Interviews are expected to be held on Friday 28 April 2017.

Completed application forms should be returned to Julie Ablewhite (Federation Business Manager) via email j-ablewhite@wolgarston.staffs.sch.uk or by post to the school address.

Welcome

Wolgarston is a fantastic school, we’ve developed a reputation locally for delivering some of the very best results at GCSE, A-Level and BTEC. But it’s not just our results that speak for themselves. Students leave Wolgarston as better people. People who are ready to make a positive contribution to the world, respectful of those around them and resilient enough to take on the challenges that life may bring.

We are proud of our academic ethos and high standards. Academic success is always the product of hard work, expert teaching and the nurturing of inquiring minds. At Wolgarston, alongside all other schools in Penk Valley Academy Trust, we follow the research-based approach to teaching and learning described in Professor John Hattie’s Visible Learning.

This meticulous attention to delivering and sequencing high-quality lessons mean that students know precisely where they are on their learning journey and can develop the habits needed to be successful and independent. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum with a strong focus on traditional subjects and the facilitating subjects that open up the doors to the best universities and employers.

This deep learning is complemented by our strong enrichment programme. We offer an excellent range of educational visits and international learning opportunities and regularly welcome a variety of guest speakers to speak in our purpose-built lecture theatre. We play host to awareness days for all of our students covering such themes as cultural diversity, our community, careers and sports.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wolgarston - a 100% school
