Contract type: Full Time
Salary: MPS/UPS commensurate with experience + TLR can be offered for Leader role (£2,796 - £4,655)
Contract term: Permanent

About the role: The Hundred of Hoo Academy has a rare and exciting opportunity to appoint a dynamic and exceptional Leader or Teacher of Social Sciences (Psychology and Sociology) to join our growing department for September 2020. We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about the Social Sciences who can build upon the existing popularity of subjects such as Sociology, and ensure the trend of excellent results across the Academy continues. The Academy has been on a transformational journey with regards to its curriculum and now proudly offers its students a broader and balanced curriculum than ever. We currently offer Sociology and PSHE at GCSE, in addition to an established Sociology Course at Post 16.

As part of our transformational journey this year we have introduced Post 16 Psychology for the first time at the Academy. This post therefore brings the unique opportunity to instate, develop and shape a year 13 curriculum offer for the current cohort . Psychology has so far been very well received and is proving to be a popular choice at A level for the year ahead. The newly appointed teacher would be faced with the exciting opportunity to mould the future of Psychology within our Post 16 offer. In addition, as part of our vision to broaden the Post 16 Social Sciences curriculum offer, it is our aim to introduce Criminology as an option in the future. We are confident this would be an attractive option for our young people with the right candidate being instrumental in shaping the design of a potential Criminology curriculum. This opportunity comes with the possibility for leadership responsibility for the right candidate.

Please note that it is not a requirement that our successful candidate delivers all four remits; Psychology and Sociology are the main requirements for this position.

We offer an exciting and rewarding place to work with access to the highest quality professional development which ensures you are at the forefront of teaching and learning innovation. Our students are keen to learn and succeed; they appreciate their teachers’ support and dedication. We can offer a bespoke professional development package based on your level of experience and career objectives and have put aside a resource fund to support the reintroduction of this subject area.

Applications from teachers at any stage in their career are welcome; experienced teachers with the ambition to train to develop further, NQTs, and those looking to experience a supportive environment where they can focus on teaching.

This is a permanent, full time position which offers MPS/UPS commensurate with experience. TLR can be offered for the Leader role and for the right candidate ranging between £2,796 - £4,655. The duties and responsibilities associated with this post are in line with the National Teaching Standards - please view the Job Description.

Working with our academy: In September 2011, The Hundred of Hoo converted to Academy status and just one year later, Ofsted judged the academy as “good with outstanding features”, recognising the relentless focus and ambition that we have.  In September 2015 the academy welcomed its first Reception class thereby extending its age range to 4-year-old children. This exciting provision demonstrates the Academy’s sense of ambition to serve the community where pupils’ academic journey represents a cradle to university principle.

We are delighted to announce that following a recent Ofsted inspection in July 2018 the academy has been judged 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features in terms of our Early Years provision and effectiveness of Leadership and Management.

In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We require all staff within the Trust to complete an enhanced DBS check as part of our on-boarding process in order to safeguard our students.

Recruitment and hiring during COVID-19:  Despite the challenges we face, recruitment and hiring will continue for all Leigh Academies Trust vacancies with as little disruption as possible over the coming weeks and months.  This is for all senior, teaching and support staff appointments.  Applications will still be reviewed and interviews conducted in a timely manner, although interview activities may vary.  We will still conduct face to face interviews where possible, and will abide by social distancing protocols such as no hand-shaking, using large meeting rooms, etc.  Candidates will be given the option to interview via online video if you cannot attend in person - this can be discussed if your application is shortlisted.  If you have any queries or concerns, please get in touch with the LAT Talent Team - talent@latrust.org.uk.
