Job overview

We are seeking a passionate educator to lead the Languages Department in our College. This senior position has oversight of all languages taught in the College and is a permanent position ideally commencing in Term 3 2016, but we may be able to negotiate this for the right candidate.

Along with modern classroom facilities, and high quality resources, the College is equipped with a state of the art Performing Arts Centre, fully operational recording studio and an indoor sports centre. The College is made up of a Preparatory, Middle and Senior School so operates with the model of three schools within the one, with each school having an appointed Principal. It offers staff a pleasant working environment where teacher-to-student ratios are high, which helps to maintain its low class numbers. Staff wellbeing is high on the priority list and the College employs or has access to trained and experienced personnel who can provide services which support this. Staff are encouraged to play their part in helping the College meet its strategic goals and opportunities for professional development are available in several different forms, including several annual staff scholarships.

This is your chance to work in a school that has created a culture, environment and atmosphere which all influence students’ learning.

Scots College offers a dual pathway for its senior students offering both NCEA and the IB Diploma. The College is fully authorized for the delivery of the Diploma Programme and is a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme. While experience teaching these programmes is desirable, it is not essential as training will be provided.

Applicants should have:

  • Experience in leading a successful department
  • Staff management experience
  • A passion for and the ability to promote languages in the College
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management
  • Staff management experience
  • A belief in excellence
  • A passion for boys’ education
  • The ability to manage and motivate young men
  • A commitment to our special character and co-curricular programmes

If you are motivated by the prospect of being a part of a dynamic teaching environment and would enjoy the challenges of this exciting role, then we would be delighted to hear from you. Our Headmaster will be in the UK in early June and may be available to meet with short-listed candidates.

Applications close on Friday 27 May 2016. Your application is to comprise a covering letter and current CV, stating teaching subjects, and the names of at least three referees. Applications are to be submitted

Scots College is an independent all-through school for boys. It is based in Wellington in New Zealand.

Scots College was founded as a Presbyterian Boys’ College in 1916. The school moved to its present site in Strathmore after three years. This allowed for a purpose-built school, boarding facilities and playing fields. Since the school’s inception it has been run by a board of governors, who up until 1930 were also responsible for Scots’ sister school, Queen Margaret College, which was established in 1919. Scots College is an International Baccalaureate World School authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and senior-level Diploma Programme. The Primary and Middle Years Programmes were introduced in the Prep School and Secondary School in 2008 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma was introduced in 2010 to Years 12 and 13. Interactive whiteboards, LCD projectors and related audio-visual equipment, computers and tablets coupled with Scot-E (the school’s student management system) effectively deliver multimedia learning at the school. In addition, the school’s Creative and Performing Arts Centre, opened in 2012, provides a recording studio, drama rooms, music rooms, a Middle School administration area, and art and graphics rooms.
