At SJP, our pastoral support team is integral to the academic, social, emotional and overall holistic development of all students at the college. As a Learning Coach, you will provide emotional support and targeted interventions to help students with their engagement, attitudes to learning and their social, emotional and overall welfare needs. The pastoral team helps to establish positive relationships among students, supporting them to foster healthy friendships and embody the values of compassion and respect.

Within the pastoral support team, the Learning Coach ensures school safeguarding and behaviour policies are adhered to, and promoted throughout the school, in order for our students to feel safe, supported and heard at all times. The purpose of the Learning Coach is to work alongside teaching staff, parents and students; providing a 1:1 mentoring and/or supportive role to specific students. The underpinning value of the work is to ensure that every pupil achieves their potential through the provision of targeted support and intervention, working closely with the school’s pastoral support team. The Learning Coach will contribute to all aspects of students’ well-being and achievement. The role will involve a mixture of supporting students outside of class, intervention groups, liaising with form tutors, communicating with parents and dealing with pupils’ behavioural and attendance issues. This will involve writing student support plans and intervening with difficulties around the school in terms of pastoral support.

The ideal candidate for this post will:

• Be able to manage behaviour and pastoral related concerns successfully, reporting to the relevant middle leaders

• Support the pastoral support team to meet the welfare and pastoral needs of students

• Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals to establish positive working relationships with students

• Enjoy working with young people and share our belief that everyone is entitled to high quality educational opportunities
