Job overview

Learning Coordinator (Head of Year)

Salary: MPS/UPS (Fringe) + TLR 2B (£26,948-£42,780 +£4,784)

Required from September 2022

We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, committed and enthusiastic teacher able to teach across the age and ability range who is ready and able to step up to, or already experienced in the additional (TLR2b) responsibility of being a Learning Coordinator (Head of Year).  The post is primarily a teaching role, with the majority of the timetable taken by teaching, however, as Learning Coordinator you would also be responsible for the pastoral care and academic progress of the students in your year group, including behaviour, attitude to learning, safeguarding and attendance issues. At this stage, applications are encouraged from all subject disciplines.

The right candidate must in addition to subject teaching, be able to demonstrate an ability to lead and manage their Tutor team, so that their year group are able to flourish academically, spiritually, physically and pastorally.  Fulfilling the role includes co-ordinating and liaising with the Senior Leadership Team, other teaching and support staff together with the Local Authority, external agencies and parents/carers.  The Learning Coordinator is expected to liaise closely with other learning coordinators to ensure continuity and progression; and facilitate smooth transition at the key stages.

Our Academic performance figures are consistently strong; our school has enjoyed a £7m refurbishment programme over the last few years (about to complete April 2022), the school has expanded to 6FE (with one year group at 7FE), and demand for school places has never been higher; our Section 48 report gives you a true flavour of the school – students enjoy coming to school and there are deep foundations with a strong Catholic ethos running through the entire school.

We can offer you a dedicated and supportive Governing Body, highly supportive parents, motivated staff and students, and a fantastic environment in which to work.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  A DBS disclosure is required for all successful applicants.  St Mary’s is committed to the equality of opportunity for all applicants, and we reserve the right to interview on a rolling basis, therefore an early application is advisable.

Closing date:  Monday 23rd May 2022 10.00 a.m. Interviews: w/c 23rd May

Apply in writing using the forms available on our website www.stmarys.net: Teacher Application Form, Consent to Obtain References Form, Rehabilitation of Offenders Form & Recruitment Monitoring Form.  Applicants are reminded that they should read the Notes to Applicants before completing an application. Please note only applications on St Mary’s forms will be accepted. Please contact Tom Johnston, Acting Head of School t.johnston@stmarys.net or Recruitment@stmarys.net to submit an application or for more information.

Welcome

St. Mary’s has a strong tradition of providing an authentic education which aims to deliver excellence for every member of our Catholic community. It is our mission to build on that tradition as we develop the school still further over the years ahead.

Our school is built upon an ambitious mission for each and every young person: to fulfil academic potential; to be fully developed in the personal, social and spiritual areas of life; to achieve excellence in every area of life; and to be underpinned by Gospel Values, enabling each person to value individuals and contribute positively to society. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to ensure that this mission is accomplished in the lives of all our young people, and in so doing, enable those young people to live life to the full.

The aims of the school are:

• the formation of our young people according to Gospel values;
• the fulfilment of the potential of our pupils in all aspects of the curriculum;
• the personal, social and spiritual development of our pupils into responsible, generous and caring members of society;
• the achievement of all these within a culture of respect and appreciation for the worth and contribution of each member of our school and its wider community.

In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students.  These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
