Job overview

We are seeking an inspirational Learning Development Assistant to join the department at the Stamford Endowed Schools. This is an essential role in creating a supportive environment for our student's educational journey.

The Stamford Endowed Schools are looking to appoint a full time Learning Development Assistant. The role of the Learning Development Assistant is to provide literacy support for pupils with a range of difficulties to enable them to access the curriculum and progress to their full potential. The role will involve working within the Learning Support Department to support small groups of pupils to develop their skills and supporting pupils in-class within lessons. Applicants must have a good standard of education and be able to engage and motivate pupils.

Applicants must have experience and success in working with children across the secondary age range and have secure subject knowledge in literacy based subjects. Applicants must have the ability to inspire pupils, helping them achieve their personal best and encourage a love of learning.

We offer a wide programme of extra-curricular activities and would encourage the successful candidate to contribute to this important area of school life. We offer a great working environment, and a commitment to personal development and CPD, along with other benefits of working in a large school community.

The Learning Support department at the Stamford Endowed Schools supports pupils with a range of learning needs across the curriculum through in-class support and small group or individual work. The department has dedicated teaching space and a wide range of resources to support students’ needs.

The Stamford Endowed Schools are a forward-thinking, bright and vibrant community of learners – distinctively unstuffy, open, inquiring and curious. At our schools, everything we do is driven by our pupils’ learning and development. Our aim is to offer a nurturing, home from home environment for our pupils to learn and grow.

The Stamford Endowed Schools nurtures the academic and social growth of its children, whilst enriching them with values which emphasise community and responsibility. The school is a caring environment in which the children feel safe and happy.

Pupil well-being is given the highest priority at our schools. The pastoral leaders, supported by all staff, oversees the welfare of the children and provides a personal and approachable support for families throughout their time at the Schools. Parents and children are encouraged to speak to class teachers, form teachers and the full-time school nurses about any worries, however small. It is fundamental that every child at the school is known as an individual and given skills and support to flourish.

The Schools are part of the great heritage of Stamford and a symbol of its vibrancy and evolution. The Schools have been established in Stamford since 1532, providing a first class education for children. Today the Schools remain interwoven with Stamford life, to which our students, teachers and parents contribute greatly. At Stamford we have one simple and overriding aim, that is to inspire our students and light fires within them.

The schools educate 1650 pupils at the Stamford Junior School for children aged 2-11, Stamford School for students aged 11-16, and Stamford Sixth Form for students aged 16-18.

This is a really exciting time to be joining the School as after nearly 500 years as a boys’ school and 200 years as a girls’ school, we have joined together as a fully co-educational school. This restructure is giving us the opportunity to look at all aspects of school life with fresh eyes, and we are looking at everything from how we provide the best possible pastoral care to how we shape the timetable, how we make best use of our estate, to how AI can support classroom learning. It is a big change, but a once in a generation opportunity to really set up the School for the next hundred years.

After this positive change, stamfordians will still be able to leave here poised for success in the real world - quietly confident, kind, positive, hardworking, unassuming and resilient. We are independent schools nurturing independent minds.

"I love the idea of preparing our kids from the school room to the boardroom in the 21st century, wherever that boardroom is in a rainforest in Brazil or as a CEO or working with a charity in India. Just as we have a big responsibility, so will they. I want them not just to be content to live in the world but to change it. Exciting!”

Principal, Will Phelan
