Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and hardworking professional with a desire to work in a successful, thriving school making a positive contribution to our pastoral team as a learning mentor.
Wheelers Lane is an established and successful school, where 72% of our students achieved grade 4 including English and Maths. 52% of students achieved grade 5 including English and Maths.
Our learning mentors work in close collaboration with the Head of Year for their cohort of boys and with staff, parents and outside agencies in order to provide support, guidance and interventions that impact on student well-being, personal, social and emotional welfare and improve student behaviour, attendance and punctuality. You will also deliver a weekly pre-planned intervention programme with a small group of selected students.
The successful candidate will:
- Be passionate about improving outcomes for all our students.
- Have knowledge of how to motivate and engage young people.
- Ensure and deliver effective pastoral support so that individual students and groups of students are supported to actively participate in learning and reach their full potential.
- Have knowledge of how to resolve conflict and manage challenging behaviour.
- Support the Head of Year to help improve pupil punctuality, attendance and behaviour and assist in reducing disruption and raising student achievement and progress.
- Contribute to effective transition from other schools ensuring pupil well-being.
- Follow school safeguarding procedures and policies.
- Be part of the pastoral duty team.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills that you will use to inspire, challenge and motivate students.
- Believe that every student can and will succeed.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Be flexible in your approach to work, adapting to new challenges.
- Support the ethos and vision of the school.
