SCALE 5 POINT 11 - 15 

£27,828.36 

36 hours per week for 39 weeks (Term time plus Inset Days) 

 

An exciting position has arisen at this large, multi-cultural 11-18 community school to work as a Learning mentor

 

 

JOB PURPOSE 

The postholder will be expected to assist the Lead Learning Mentor in the provision of a complementary service to existing teachers/pastoral staff in school; helping identified children achieve their potential by overcoming barriers to learning both inside and outside school.  

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 

Responsible to the Lead Learning Mentor 

 

  1. To provide one to one mentoring sessions for pupils referred by Heads of Year 

  1. Use a range of motivational strategies to help engage each pupil in achieving their potential and using creative and imaginative ways of engaging pupils who need focus. 

  1. To pro-actively engage in training to develop skills. 

  1. To keep up to date notes of sessions in confidential case files with targets highlighted. 

  1. To observe pupils in lessons before they begin the programme when there are behavioural problems in the classroom. 

  1. To ensure that each student on the caseload understands that all mentoring sessions are treated as confidential and the circumstances under which confidentiality will be broken. To liaise with Heads of Year and other staff as necessary in relation to the needs of individual cases. 

  1. To liaise and attend meetings, where appropriate, with external agencies such as Social Care, Youth Offending Team, Hounslow Youth Counselling, Educational Welfare, Educational Psychologists (CAMHs etc.) drug/alcohol abuse workers and to set up these links with individual students as appropriate. Also, to develop a network and knowledge of statutory and voluntary bodies offering services to young people locally. 

  1. To run, organise or assist in group work activity as directed by the Lead Learning Mentor. 

  1. To run and attend weekly clubs at lunchtime and after school. 

  1. To liaise regularly with Heads of Year and teachers with regards to students progress and support required. 

  1. To attend weekly Inclusion meetings and provide short write-ups of all students in the individual caseload, while bearing in mind confidentiality agreements. 

  1. To facilitate drop-in sessions with students outside of mentoring sessions at break, lunch and after school. 

  1. To provide support for pupils during registration through attachment to a Year Team 

  1. To follow all safeguarding  and data protection procedures and complete training as required 

 

This job specification may be re-negotiated if the needs of the school change in future
