Job overview

Craven Primary Academy are looking to appoint a Learning Mentor to join our academy in January 2024 on a temporary, part time basis.

This role is temporary with potential to move to permanent in future.

Do you want to work for a Trust that is transforming educational outcomes for students in some of the most deprived areas in the North of England? If so, this could be the role for you.

Your new role

As a Learning Mentor, you will provide support and guidance to children and young people by removing barriers to learning in order to promote effective participation in learning opportunities, enhance individual learning, raise aspirations and achieve full potential.

Craven’s mission is to help children become more emotionally resilient and better placed to engage with life and learning. With this in mind we have fully embraced Thrive as a whole school approach.

The Thrive approach offers a whole setting approach to supporting the social and emotional development of all children. It involves identifying and addressing the needs of pupils, and creating an environment that removes barriers to learning.

The successful applicant will work under the direction of the SENCO and SLT to deliver Thrive interventions in one to one and small groups situations. In addition to supporting vulnerable pupils in both learning and social settings.

There is an expectation the applicant’s ethos will be fully aligned to this approach, so they are able to support the leadership team to champion and role model. The post holder needs to be able to demonstrate emotional intelligence, resilience and empathy to foster the understanding, skills and positive relationships needed to develop and sustain healthy social and emotional wellbeing in our academy.

There may be a training opportunity for the right candidate.

If you feel you have the necessary skills and experience required for this position, then we would very much like to hear from you.

Your new school

With 210 pupils aged between 3 and 11 housed in our academy, Craven is a friendly and vibrant place that serves the community of the Drypool ward, but many children from further afield attend because of our excellent reputation. We are a popular choice of school for the community, and each year our reception is heavily oversubscribed. We pride ourselves on the high levels of academic standards that our children reach, but also the responsible young citizens they develop into during their time with us.
