As a Learning Mentor at Sybourn Primary School you will be a part of the safeguarding team and have a key role for providing support and guidance to children and those engaged with them, by removing barriers to learning in order to promote effective participation, enhance individual learning, raise aspirations and achieve their potential.
Our Learning Mentors carry a caseload and offer timetabled support to individuals and groups of children, they are not class bound but have a significant role throughout the school and are an integral part of the safeguarding team.
In this extremely rewarding role, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to support vulnerable and at-risk students and deliver group and individual sessions to learners. This in turn will support learners in developing a sense of self-responsibility and ownership of their learning experience.
We’re proud of our success in achieving excellent results and producing knowledgeable and successful students, but we’re built on our staff and our success is down to recruiting and retaining the best possible talent. Helping our children to fulfil their potential and often transform their lives through education requires dedication, patience and the ability to think differently. That’s why we set out to recruit staff with a genuine passion for education and a commitment to ensuring all students achieve their potential, whatever barriers they need to overcome.
To help you achieve this, you will be working as part of a hardworking, passionate and supportive team that is committed to getting the best out of our learners.
To be successful in the role you will need excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop relationships with tact and sensitivity, the ability to maintain confidentiality, energy and enthusiasm.
We’d love you to join the team if you want to make a real difference to the lives of students, their families and the wider community. In return, we’ll provide you with a range of development opportunities, benefits and support to help you fulfil your role.
We can offer you:
- a dedicated leadership team, who are committed to supporting and developing colleagues;
- excellent professional development;
- membership to ‘Lion Perks at Work’ discount scheme;
- Working in a unique learning environment;
- Opportunity to have a positive effect on a young individual’s life;
- Additional training offered to better enhance classroom performance.
Any offer of employment for this post will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Ofsted report
“Outstanding leadership from leaders and governors has brought about rapid improvement since the school became an academy. Teaching and achievement have improved considerably and are now good. Children make a good start in the well-resourced and stimulating early years’ provision. Teachers give pupils clear guidance about what they are learning and have high expectations of their work. Almost all pupils are from a range of minority ethnic backgrounds. The proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language is high, including many at the early stages of speaking English.”
