Working closely with teachers, the SENDCo, and senior leaders, the successful candidate will provide targeted support for pupils with SEND, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and contribute to the delivery of high‑quality teaching, learning, and pastoral care across the school.

  • Support pupils with EHCP targets, personalised learning programmes, and specialist interventions

  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation, delivery, and assessment

  • Deliver SEND‑specific and EHC‑recommended interventions, including therapy or sensory programmes

  • Monitor and support pupils’ academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and behaviour

  • Contribute to EHCP reviews, reports, transitions, and statutory assessments where required

  • Promote positive behaviour and maintain a nurturing, inclusive learning environment

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals

  • Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, and enrichment activities

  • Engage fully in training, SEND‑focused professional development, and performance reviews

  • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection procedures at all times

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Level 3 qualification (minimum requirement)

  • Has minimum GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths

  • Has experience of supporting children or young people, ideally within a SEND context

  • Demonstrates excellent literacy, numeracy, and communication skills

  • Shows empathy, patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for working with pupils with additional needs

  • Is able to work effectively as part of a team and on their own initiative

  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality, and inclusive practice

  • Is willing to engage in training and further professional development

Longshaw is a one form entry primary school in Chingford, catering for children from Nursery to Year 6 (3 – 11 year olds). We also run a popular morning Parent Toddler group once a week run by our well qualified and experienced early years staff.

Longshaw is a single storey, post war purpose built school located in spacious grounds. We have two playgrounds and well-resourced separate outdoor play areas for both our Nursery and Reception children to enjoy.

At Longshaw we value our community and its diverse cultures and take pride in our children and their determination to succeed. Through our work we aim to create an environment in which children actively engage and enjoy learning and are rightly proud of their efforts. Our ultimate aim is for the children to become independent, confident, resilient, high achieving learners and responsible adults of the future.

Longshaw is a busy but friendly school. We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where everyone is valued and pupils feel safe to take risks in their learning. We have a very active and supportive group of parents (LAF) and other members of the school community who help fundraise and regularly support a wide range of activities.
