Overview of the role

We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious, proactive and driven Learning Programmer to develop and deliver an intensive and inclusive secondary school partnership at The Ashmolean Museum with Greyfriars Catholic School in Oxford.

The Ashmolean is Oxford University’s Museum of Art and Archaeology. You will work in the busy and creative Formal Learning Team which develops and delivers school and academic engagement programmes.

You will identify innovative opportunities to work in partnership with staff and students at the school across all key stages to embed Ashmolean collections and object-based learning into the curriculum, lesson delivery, INSET and the life of the school. You will be responsible for developing and delivering innovative and creative engagement programmes at the Ashmolean and in school. The programme will run for one year with the possibility of an extension to two years.

Responsibilities/duties

 To identity and take all opportunities to maximise the effectiveness of the project. To work with teachers at the school to map, develop, coordinate and deliver an innovative and creative learning programme which embeds Ashmolean collections across different subjects and key stages, including INSET.

Use knowledge of the The Ashmolean’s collections to develop object-based teaching and learning, with the ability and skill to embed this effectively in the school’s curriculum and wider programmes.

To plan, deliver and project manage the programme to deliver key milestones on time and on budget by setting and working to tight deadlines.

To have excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships quickly, and be a supportive, credible and trusted colleague with authority to deliver programmes at the school and the Museum.

To coordinate an evaluation plan for the project work, work alongside consultants to report at key points of the project. To write up the project and disseminate findings through papers, blogs and presentations contributing to training events and conferences where appropriate.

To collaborate and work with key partners including: curators, Museum staff, Academics from The University of Oxford, University college outreach officers, academics from Oxford University’s Department of Education, evaluation consultants Museum colleagues and the school’s head teacher and staff.

To develop and manage the internship programme for teachers at The Ashmolean including creating an application process, selection, planning the internships and evaluation.

To develop project-related digital learning resources and outputs for secondary age students and teachers with external consultants.

To oversee spending, coordinate and report on the budget for the programme.
