Learning Services Manager and Senior Leader

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified and experienced professional to lead our Learning Services Team. The team Is a highly developed one that provides outstanding care and support for a broad range of learners. The Learning Services Manager leads on the provision for SEND learners and other learners with additional needs, has responsibilities for safeguarding across the college and leads on our growing and excellent provision for Mental Health and Wellbeing across the College. 

The current department structure includes 4 coordinators who have specific responsibilities in key provision for the College. These include a coordinator for Student Mental Health and Wellbeing, a coordinator for LAC and LSA provision, a coordinator for Dyslexia support and Access Arrangements and a coordinator who has responsibility for Safeguarding and ‘At Risk’ learners. This coordinator is also the College’s DDSL.

The post holder will act as DSL for the college, supported by a DDSL who is already in post. The post holder will be responsible for leading on complex cases and in supporting other staff who also have caseloads. The post holder will be responsible for the planning of the delivery of relevant update training to all staff and involvement in the induction of staff in terms of safeguarding. 

The post holder will also have responsibility for the liaison with the relevant local authorities for students with EHCPs and to secure HNS funding for learners who are expected to attend College. You will also lead on and manage the transition processes for learners joining and leaving the College and on the planning of wider support and mentoring services, including the College Counselling service.

 This position also comes with the role of a Senior Leader. We currently have 5 Senior Leaders who support the Senior Management Team by undertaking duties across the College as well as leading on specific wider college priorities. You will be joining a highly effective and visible group of leaders who engage with learners across the College supporting and leading our student behaviour strategies, delivery of skills days and having a significant presence at events such as parents’ evenings and transition events.

 This is a full-time post and we would not consider applications seeking to undertake the role part time

 Key requirements

You must have a Keeping Children Safe in Education (DSL), previously known as level 3 training safeguarding qualification and experience of managing cases at the highest level. You must have knowledge of current UK disability legislation, safeguarding legislation and legislation relating to mental health.

Experience of working in education and/or understanding the support available to learners within education is essential

The curriculum offered is predominantly Level 3 provision of A Levels and Vocational A Level programmes with around 95% of students studying at advanced level. As a result of this additional support, our alumni includes students who have progressed to many of the UK’s top universities including Oxford and Durham.

Academies in Theatre, Sport and Science further enhance studies and help develop essential skills associated with each discipline. The College has partnerships with Bolton Cricket League supported by the Lancashire Cricket Board and we also work in association with the Octagon Theatre Bolton which is a highly respected regional theatre currently undergoing a redevelopment programme to ensure its ongoing provision of quality productions and accessibility for all.

As well as providing a range of opportunities for those students enrolled at the college, as part of our strategy on inclusion and working in the wider community we have fantastic links with local secondary schools, offering taster days and workshops to Year 10/11 pupils who may be undecided or unaware of their future opportunities to continue their studies. There is also an established and extremely successful RAY programme (Raising Aspirations in Youth) which is designed to equip more able Year 9 and 10 pupils with the necessary skills to excel in their studies and this is led by our dedicated staff with sessions, events and workshops held regularly on college premises.

With a collective focus on ensuring that every student achieves their personal best, the college aims to create a culture and ethos which promotes initiative, curiosity, confidence and independence in all our learners.  This aim is supported by the many college wide activities and events that all students participate in and which supports experiences of the world of work, offers opportunities to debate topical subjects and encourages students to come together to raise money and awareness for the many local and national charity events that take place throughout the year.
