An exciting opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative team in a flourishing  independent school which caters for students with special educational needs (SEN).

Abingdon House School and College is a unique and successful Independent Day School for children with Specific Learning Difficulties including autistic spectrum condition, ADHD, dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder, aged 5-19. The school delivers holistic and integrated programmes of education, therapy and personal development for its students. 

Role Description

The LSA will provide 1:1 classroom support to a cheerful, affectionate and friendly, 17 year old girl with autism in the College. The LSA will be working in a class of up to 10 pupils with a classroom teacher, other support staff and therapists. The pupil is verbal, enjoys learning when motivated and has a keen interest in art.

The LSA will promote good behaviour and facilitate positive social communication and interaction, working with both pastoral and academic staff to enhance and enrich the learning experience of the pupil. The context for this work is varied, encompassing both the classroom and educational experiences beyond the classroom.

Training

Training and supervision will be provided by the school and by a dedicated SEN consultant with over 25 years' experience of working with Autism, SEN education and Positive Behaviour Support.

All staff are encouraged and enabled to take part in additional training to become qualified in supporting the needs of learners with SpLD, Autism and other associated needs.

Qualifications, experience and personal qualities

The successful candidate will ideally be a Psychology graduate with a good understanding of SEN and at least 3 years' experience with special needs, preferably with autism and in a school setting.

The ideal candidate will be dedicated, enthusiastic, calm under pressure and aspirational for the pupil. The abillity to work collaboratively with parents, class teachers and other professionals is essential.
