JOB VACANCY

LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Start date: 1st September 2026

Hipperholme Grammar School is seeking a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work across the whole school Foundation (ages 5-16).

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and the SENCO to support pupils with special educational needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop independence and achieve their full potential. Ideally, you will have previous experience of working in a school as a teaching/support assistant alongside pupils with SEN, although this is not essential as full training and support will be provided.

Hipperholme is an independent day school for pupils aged 3-16, with preschool, juniors and seniors sections. The school is located in the village of Hipperholme, having been founded here in 1648 by Matthew Broadley.  Class sizes are small, with junior year groups up to 20 pupils and senior year groups being around 40 pupils, split between two classes.  We pride ourselves on knowing all our pupils as individuals, nurturing them, inspiring them and helping them achieve their best, whatever that may be.

For full details of the role and responsibilities, please refer to the Job Description and Applicant Pack.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 24th June 2026 at 9am.

Interviews are scheduled to take place week commencing 29th June 2026.

Hipperholme Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including online searches, checks with past employers and the DBS.

Hipperholme Grammar School is a small, family orientated school, with its values firmly set in providing the foundation for the best outcomes for all its pupils, whilst also providing amazing opportunities for experiences outside of the curriculum.  In recent years the Business Studies pupils have been to China, the choir have sung at Disneyland Paris and the German pupils are attending the Christmas Markets in Aachen and Cologne.  We hope to resume such trips once restrictions allow.

Small class sizes and low staff turnover enable the pupils and staff to get to know each other well, fostering strong relationships and an ability to tailor learning to the needs of individuals.

The teaching staff are all well qualified, experienced and enthusiastic specialists in their subjects and are aware of the contribution they make to the general education provided.  Parents too play their part in school, usually meeting as a Parents’ Association each week, arranging social functions and providing refreshments and support at school events. Termly newsletters and the annual Brodleian publication are received by all families so that everyone knows what is happening and what has been achieved.
