About the Role

We’re seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team and make a real difference in the lives of pupils who require 1:1 support. This is your chance to help young people overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve their potential.

You will provide personalised support to pupils with multiple social, emotional, and learning challenges. This may include supporting pupils with speech and sound disorders, expressive language difficulties, delayed understanding of language, concentration challenges, and work avoidance behaviours.

While primarily education-focused, this role also involves supporting families, carers, and the wider community, working closely with professionals such as Social Workers, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, and Early Intervention Teams. Some work may take place outside the classroom.

You will contribute to the school’s overall responsibility for promoting the learning, personal development, and wellbeing of all pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare, safety, and wellbeing of pupils

  • Work in line with professional standards, statutory requirements, and school policies

  • Support day-to-day organisation and administration within the school

  • Take responsibility for agreed areas of work, reviewed annually through performance management

  • Contribute positively to the school’s improvement journey

  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required

We want someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people:

  • Previous experience working in a SEND school or specialist setting

  • Grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths

  • Calm, consistent, and nurturing approach

  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills

  • Genuine commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers and succeed

Welcome to The Wenlock School

 The Wenlock School

The Wenlock School offers an outstanding and therapeutic educational approach with a staff team dedicated and determined to support every individual. Our custom built school has been designed with specialised facilities, creating a unique environment, which will help our learners re-engage with their education supported by a personalised and purposeful curriculum. We will also embrace a raft of initiatives with personalised targets to ensure every child can make excellent progress, appropriate to their specific needs.  Many children come to us with very complex needs, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviour. We always look beyond the issues and potential barriers to learning and recognise the innate potential within. We invest time with each individual child to recognise and understand their learning needs so that we can put in place the right support package. Our expectations are very high for both behaviour and achievement, because we know that we can help children make much more progress than they would within a mainstream school environment
