Job overview

Part-time, fixed term to end of current academic year

The Preparatory School have a need for a learning support assistant (LSA) for October 2023. The LSA will ideally work 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday, during term time although there can be some flexibility.

As an LSA, you will enable our children to grow in confidence and ability. You will have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. A warm and strong personality is essential.

A good level of education and previous experience of working in a support role would be advantageous (but is not essential), as would an understanding and affinity with the ethos of the school.

In return, you can expect all the benefits of a thriving independent school: a competitive and progressive salary, pension, professional development, laptop, cycle scheme, lunches in term time and free parking.

Further details of the role and how to apply can be found under the ‘working at Claremont’ link at www.claremontfancourt.co.uk

Closing date: 9.00am on 17 October 2023

Early applications are strongly encouraged, we reserve the right to appoint prior to the closing date and shortlisted candidates may be invited for interview at short notice.

We are an equal opportunities employer and are seeking applications from suitable candidates from all backgrounds. We are fully committed to creating and sustaining a positive and supportive working environment free from discrimination where staff feel valued and respected. We value individuality and diversity and believe in equal opportunity for everyone, irrespective of age, disability, gender identity, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation or socio-economic background.

Claremont Fan Court School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the school is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

We are a co-educational School, for children from 2½ to 18 years, situated just outside Esher, Surrey. The School is set in the historic landscaped grounds of the Claremont Estate.

Claremont Fan Court School was founded on a Christian ethos and we welcome children from all faiths and from none. We develop in our pupils the intellectual, cultural, physical and spiritual qualities that children must possess in their pursuit of excellence. Our ethos recognises, cares for, and values the potential of every pupil such that they can do more than they think is possible.

Vision and values

Character Education is at the heart of our educational programme at Claremont Fan Court School. Growth in right-thinking and acting opens the way to a more truthful and expansive way of looking at oneself and others, providing a new perspective on perceived limitations and capabilities. Claremont Fan Court School aims to recognise, care for and value the potential of every student, fostering their love of learning and supporting them to high academic achievement, as well as furthering their education in sporting and cultural activities.

We have developed a unique programme for teaching character. This programme focuses specifically on a set of core values and recognises that developing these requires a comprehensive educational approach. A new character quality is introduced each month. The quality is used within assemblies, discussions, activities and curriculum work.

Our extensive co-curricular programme, offering over 60 co-curricular opportunities, enables every pupil to experience activities beyond the classroom in order to tap broader interests and extend talents.

The ISI Report January 2017 noted that: ‘Pupils show pride in their achievements in curricular and co-curricular activities . . . Parents and pupils agreed that these opportunities enhance pupil achievement’.
