Actual Salary £20,183 - £20,931 per annum (£23,194 - £24,054 FTE) Term Time only plus 5 days - 37 Hours per week

The Academy

Nunthorpe is a very popular outstanding co-educational 11 – 19 comprehensive converter Academy with approximately 1550 students on roll.

As of the first of September 2014 Nunthorpe Academy officially started work as the lead Teaching School in the North East Schools Teaching Alliance – NESTA. This new school led system of self improvement focuses on six key areas, (the Big 6), which include the development of School to School Support; Professional Development; Specialist Leaders of Education; Initial Teacher Training; Succession Planning and Research & Development.

The Role

The role would be contracted 37 hours per week term time 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday (8.30am 4.00pm Friday) with a 30 minute break each day. This will be on a Term Time only basis plus 5 additional days, per academic year. Part-time hours are available.

Duties will be supporting students with Special Educational Needs in particular those with Social and Emotional needs such as ADHD. This will be both on a 1:2:1 basis and targeted group basis, this could be within the classroom or on a withdrawal intervention programme. Being part of the Pastoral team will be an important aspect of the role such as being involved in the mentoring schemes and being a key worker to students who are identified to require such support. Quite simply, you will become a key part of life with some of our most vulnerable students.

The Candidate

We require an energetic, inspirational and talented person with a passion for the education of students across the whole 11 – 19 age and ability range. We offer an exciting opportunity to enhance an already highly motivated team, characterised by a very ambitious drive for excellence centred on our School’s vision “to be outstanding in every respect.”

The successful candidate will have had experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs supporting within the classroom as well as delivering successful intervention programmes to enhance the students’ progress.

Have knowledge of the New SEN Code of Practice-2014 (updated 2020)

Hold a Level 2 NVQ in Supporting teaching and Learning or equivalent education focused qualifications. 

GCSE (or equivalent) grade B in Mathematics, Science and English, are a minimum qualification requirement for this post.

To be calm, efficient, and highly organised, with the flexibility to work with other faculties on occasion across our Academy is essential. Ability to work under pressure and willingness to adapt to the needs of the Academy is a must.

The successful candidate will have to undertake an enhanced DBS check
