We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant to join our successful SEND team and thriving school. The role entails working with students with a range of SEND needs but primarily with young people who have hearing/visual impairments and a range of physical difficulties. You will be responsible for ensuring the students are fully prepared for all of their lessons and learning. You will support students in a range of different subjects at KS3 and GCSE, working alongside the teacher. This will require adapting resources; working with students in small groups or one-to-one in the SEND department. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, the ability to adapt curricula to meet SEN needs and the ability to support students with alternative methods of recording work, primarily the effective use of laptops. You will also work with other external professionals to deliver and develop the programme of support for each child. You will work closely with OT and HI professionals and liaise with them. Ideally you will also be confident running small group alternative PE and sensory circuits guided by OT plans. Ideal candidates will have experience of working with students with SEND and in particular physical and sensory needs. Training will however be provided for suitable candidates as necessary.

The Bulmershe SEND department has its own base with fantastic facilities which offer a superb environment in which to work and learn. We are a friendly and supportive team of 15 staff who have a wealth of experience. In an ever-changing world, we continue to learn and adapt in order to best support our student community.


Specific duties and responsibilities

  • To facilitate learning by supporting the needs of individual students and small groups of students in accordance with school policy and government initiatives in the pursuit of high standards of pupils achievement. 
  • Work sensitively with students with a range of Sensory or physical difficulties.
  • Planning and delivering 1-1 and small group interventions e.g. Tune Up, welfare support for students with VI and HI and mobility/sensory difficulties. The ability to deliver small group intervention around physical and sensory needs 
  • Liaise and build purposeful working relationships with class teachers and fellow LSAs
  • Be able to support students who present with challenging behaviours in a calm, nonconfrontational way 
  • Have an excellent understanding of the need for confidentiality and safeguarding

The Bulmershe School is a heavily oversubscribed school which sits at the heart of the Woodley community. We are a mixed, Corvus Learning Trust Academy school of 1,500 students aged between 11 and 18, who come from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
